My project for the 1/8 scale electric class is going to be the Slo-mo-shun V. This is a boat that I fell in love with as a child in the '50's. I was there on the shoreline as it did its famous backwards flip while trying to qualify for the '55 Gold Cup in Seattle. Little did I know that I would be in charge of the restoration of the V years later. Then I got to drive the boat. What a thrill!! How many of you can say you are going to build an 1/8 scale of a boat you got to drive. I am attempting to send some pix of the 1/6 scale I built of the V back in 1996. It was powered by a Zenoah 23.

Oop's it would help if I read the post. Not sure if Roger was involved in this boat but he may have been. It belongs to Monte Steere of E-RCU and is a 1/8th scale nitro boat.

Thanks Jim. That is the V that Monte Steere and I built back in 1973. And it still runs. Monte must have put on 100,000 miles with the V.

You cant believe how thrilling it was. Just last month I got to drive the Hawaii Kai. The whole time I am thinking "these guys were nuts!" I dont know how they did it.

A whole bunch of us at E-RCU put in hundreds of hours restoring the real V. The sheet metal coweling must have a couple of hundred hours between Monte, my brother Dave Lilly, and myself!

One of the best days of my life was when Ted Jones came to the shop. He took several minutes to look over the boat and then said " Boys you are doing a fantastic job. It looks better than brand new!" Wow. Did that make us feel good to hear that from the Master.
