It seems that quite a few FE folks are using the Garmain eTrex GPS to get speed readings. It appears that this unit is small enough to fit in some larger monohulls. I guess you tape it on the smaller boats.

Does anyone in the MMM FE group have a GPS? Is it a good tool for checking speed?

Something like this might be handy in selecting props and tweaking a boat - I always have a hard time figuring out if my tweaks increased or decreased my speed. How do you guys check to see if a new prop or different set up helped gain a mph or two?

Hey Ralph, I have one and I'll bring it out. You can try it out. I just saw them in Radio Shack for 199.00, Canadian Eh. The etrex is water proof to 30 feet for 3 hours (I think) Only one stipulation on using it. You lose it, You buy it.

You are very well prepared!
Your deal is very fair - I lose it I replace it brand new for you.
If you bring it to the pond on April 21, I would like to try it in my Ovalmaster with 2 different props to see which gives top speed. As well, like to try it in my EV to measure the speed with the current set up. I will need your help using it since I have not used the eTex units before.
Maybe we can do some speed tests before the rest of the gang gets there. Not sure if folks are scheduled to meet at 1 pm. Some course work may occur earlier in the day, so if you are keen to get there earlier lets wait and see what the official start time is.

I look forward to meeting you and seeing your modified Villan run.

Ralph

BTW - how far are you from the Humber Bay pond? I happen to live 15 minutes from the pond so I go there regularly - been on the water 3 times already (once there was a skim coat of ice in the corner of the pond).

Hey Ralph, I'm bringing it for sure, don't leave home without it. If it's warm out, like at least 5 degrees with some Sun I'll be there by 9 am. I'm about 45 mins west from the pond. I have a small canal about 5 min from home for testing. I'm hopefully doing some first runs this weekend. Maybe the Villain can keep-up with your ovalmaster NOT.
