Started my sons Twin Stray Cat project this week. Goal is to have a twin N-2 Offshore setup. I know NAMBA rules don't permit twin motors for N-class boats.(so What!)
Parts list include:
(1) H20 Stray Cat hull (ABS)
(2) Graupner 500 speed motors
(2) 3.2/.098 Alum. Couplers (Ned Schmit)
(2) .098/.125 stub Flex cable asms w/teflon
(1) R/C Hydros esc
(2) Traxxas Outdrive Asms(see Pic)
(1) Twin Outdrive CF mtg plate with integrated Rudder asm (center mounted)
(1) HS225BB MG servo
*Bruline seals and Antenna
Traxxas drives will be side-by-side mounted in tunnel to common CF angle mounting plate. Plate will have up/down and offer angular adjustment features.Cleaver blade rudder will be mounted to drive plate also. Pics will follow as work progresses.

I don't think you will be happy with those drives. Who says you can not run 2 motors in n2 offshore. The only limit on power is 6 cells total.

Howard the Traxxas drives(skegs removed and sleeved for 1/8 stubs) work great and they are very light.
Yesturday, initial testing went very well. The twin 500RACE/3300 setup gives plenty of runtime, decent speed and handled twin x432 aluminum props without cooling. This is a fun little boat!

It's in the book somewhere. N2 one motor.

TERRY's correct and were well aware of the rules. Someone had to do a Twin 6 cell Cat `MACH 5 racing' has bragging rights now!
We hope to run it anyways(points or no points) the plan is to water down those pestky surfboards! LOL :hammer:

Ken,
Did you put the drives on the sponsens or in the tunnel?
I've got a killer idea for a gear box to drive to props from one motor. It would be easy to buid one from a Hughey gear drive. Heck, just pick up the 32 pitch gears and we could make the rest of it.
After the cup I'll screw with this idea.

Drives are in clean water aft of the tunnel. Your wider tunnel design on the Stray makes it real easy to setup. Split cells reside in the sponsons to keep CG low. Gears, whats that?

You know, those things with the teath that make it possible to make a better prop choice. LOL
Never mind. I forgot. Gearphobe. LOL
I was going to build a duelly for the T setup but I just don't have the time. Duelly on the Titan 40 would be really really cool.

TERRY, your talking 1 monster BL motor geared to 2 drives with the T setup, should just make 4 min runtime on 3300's. Would be awesome on a big Cat! Got the hull? Now thats a big project to throw money at! LOL

Didn't you see it?

If I had a real hull I certainly wouldn't tell ya here. The CAFEinds are everywhere.
Mid summer we'll build something to scare the fish out of the water. Counter rotating 447's on an big ole cat. That would be nuts in your big Drifter. You wouldn't need the 2280. Maybe a 13XL and 24 cells. You've got most of the work done.

TERRY you mean my Drifter that i'm refitting with twin 800GRX-Ls. Hopefully the CAFE boys will have some (twin) competition for it this year! LOL
IDEA!Why don't you make your neighbor an offer on that big ol CAT of his. Just cut it to your desired length and slap a new transom on it.(use your new band saw)You have the big motor and all those round plastic things with the different teeth on them. Go for it!

You could put it the yard, fill it with water, and let the twins use it as a kiddy pool.
Honestly it would take a pair of 2280's and at least 64 cells. Even then your talking about a lot of weight to crank up to speed.

Ken I am running my twin drifter in T Hydro. Bring it on Bubba.
Does not handle well enough for T-offshore.
SOUNDS GREAT THOUGH WITH THOSE COUNTER-ROTATING X447'S!!!!

I'm pretty sure Dennis has his 2280's from the Appache. Maybe Steve replaced those puppies with some MORE power. I'm sure he'll wait at least 2 more weeks to tell us. Much like my T BEAST.
