I bought a 8.4 v Speed 700 BB part#GR6316 I don't like it. I don't like the price for one, it ran me $69 cdn and it was the best price I could find. I don't like the motor, what kind of design is that?..... ball bearing on one end Bronze bushing on the other. Another reason I don't like this motor is that it's not really rebuildable. Sure I could open the end to pop out the amature to cut the comm on my metal lathe but with tampered tabs on the motor i'm sure will lead to a lot of controversy. Is there a 700 motor that is screwed together rather than tabbed? Also is there a 700 with 2 ball bearings?

I bought my 700BB #6316 from A&J Hobbies for $49.95 about 1 1/2 months ago. He has since received another shipment of 8.4's and Neos from Graupner, but I don't know if they have any left. All the local boat racers were snapping them up pretty fast. The 9.6 Neo was $90 - $95.
Dan, you don't have to like them, they are a spec motor and that's what is legal. They have always been a tabbed endbell can and single ball bearing. If a Roar stock 05 costs about $45-$50, how much would you expect to pay for a inexpensive 12 cell motor which will easily last a whole season (or more)? The whole idea is that they can't be tampered with or opened up.

I bought 2 of them from AJ today, they cost me 59.90 + tax ....they look like junk compared to a roar stock .......kinda remind me of 5 dollar mabushi 540's

The motor is a pretty one for the money, considering you would pay $170.00+ (US) for a true racing 12 cell motor BL or brushed.
You must admit that the racing is closer with these "spec" motors than most of the open classes.
If it is not over propped it will last more than one season...

You're right Steve the racing is closer. The thing that I don't like about the proposed motors for the 700-class lsh is that too many different motors are allowed for the class. We should get after the manufactures to make a 12-cell spec motor that would be the same set of rules similar to Roar. The price range is pretty wide in that list of proposed motors. I would like to see the club decide on just using the 6316 like we have done with the offshore spec and stick with that.

is it wise to judge a book by its cover?
1. try the motor. Your roar stock motor may have a pretty face but it never went this fast. Every cent in this motor is in its performance and toughness not cosmetics
2. in 2-3 seasons when/if the performance starts to degrade then think about whether it is poor value - these motors are tough - ask the millions of tradesmen who abuse them in power tools
3. There are only two motors in LSH - all the brands listed are based on the Mabuchi RS775VH-909 either 8.4, 9.6 12v or a Johnson motor of similar dimension which is the Neo 9.6v.
You will find only two motors will be competitive, the 8.4v you have and the 9.6v Neo . The others are simply too slow revving
Get it on the water and you may feel differently
