I don't know how many of you are aware of my`Circus Circus XLSH' thread on the Scale Hydro forum.
Well, so far i haven't herd of any of my customers hitting the magic 40MPH with a`MACH 5 racing' 800GRX motor YET!
It now looks like 40 MPH is well within grasp.

Circus Circus testing resumed today, after some tweaks were made my GARMIN GPS recorded top-speed 38.5MPH also recorded 4 mins of runtime.

Keep in mind this is a with a $75.00 brushed powertool based motor running on (20) 2yr old 3300's w/ R/C Hydros esc. Fairly inexpensive for the higher cell count classes.

The newly proposed MMM XLSH class will be run on a std NAMBA oval for 10 laps just like LSH. Min hull size is 29" 800GRX motors available from `MACH 5 racing'

Ken,

Are you using the Emperor on this yet?

Andy

ANDY the new R/C Hydro's EMPEROR esc will be used for the final sequence of tests. Up till now i've been using an earlier R/C Hydro's 90 Amp aircooled Penguin. Its seamed a little lighter, i'm counting on the new EMPERORs amazing efficiency rating to help me break 40MPH.

I've had the Emperor coupled to a 355/37 Plett in my 40 Titan, and having been thrashing it for days. What a great ESC. It operates as smooth as butta, and after running every possible combination on 30 cells, I've never even gotten the Emperor warm! Good work Andy :)

Good Stuff Ken, Looks like your setting the mark!!

Andys Emperor runs my Big Cracker and although I havn't run as much as I liked yet:( I have run it on 32 cell and gave it some continuous 80 amp draws. The onlything begging for mercy was the Motor and cells:D

My GRX will be doing double duty this year in XLSH and Q-offshore and 40 sounds good to me!!!

Ken we will only be allowing 18 cells for GRX's in Q-Offshore
Bigger Prop?

PETE

For Offshore Mono's (enduro) stick with my recomended range 42-45mm 18-20 cells. Anymore and that motor may not be doing double duty.
We have the Can Nats on our schedule, i'll have motors and accesories avail if needed.

Ken you haven't used a prop bigger than 45mm, (CF GRAUPNER, RIGHT)? Could you use an Octura or ABC prop, cause these are the ones that I have. x445
x447
x642
x645
CF 45mm & 62mm
ABC 40/62 3 blade ( one of the blades broke though)

I want to kow because i want a GRX for my new DL.

I've tried all kinds and sizes of props on my motors. Thats the range i recomend for good longivity.

OK, so the Octuras are fine as long as i don't go larger than 45mm?

Ken,
I would like to try the GRX in my PIP triton on 18-24 cells. I have a FDM trans. in it. Any gear and prop recomendations?
Thanks,
Chris

CHRIS,

The 800GRX (18-20cells) will not with gear drives because of the 6mm shaft but would be ideal for that size hull.

On the other hand the 800GRX-L(24-26cells)will work with gear drives 1 1/8"mtg spacing and 5mm shaft. However 24 cells may be a little to much weight for that hull.

Both motors will produce speeds in the 30-40 MPH range (depending on setup) and 4min plus runtime with 3300's.

Thanks,

Can I drill out the pinion gear to 6mm?

Yeah can you? Think of the possibilities.:burnout:

You're right, with my luck! :D

I would imagine you cold bore the pinion hole out BUT the mount spacing is still 1/8" wider than the Turbo Trans. The 800GRX has the speed and endurance running direct drive. Unless your running 6 minute Offshore enduros i really dont see a need for gears with the 800GRX(18-20 cell).

Now the 800GRX-L (24-26 cell) will fit a Turbo Trans and has a 5mm shaft. All the key ingrediants are there for a 6 minute Offshore setup.

BTW my XLSH hit 40.8MPH with the 800GRX on 20 cells and ran for over 4 minutes!

Do you think it will run in the mid 30's in a mono?:D

Yes but it wont be in its optimum power band (24-26 cells)

PIP recomends 18-24 cells for the triton. Chris Fine says 12-18. Going to float it in the hot tub w/ 24 cells. If it floats, I'm going for it. Thanks for your help.

YES! it floats.....The grxl is on order(hope you have the order)Ordered a emperor S/C and several C/F props. Hope to be testing next week.
