Hi Guys,
I'm trying to find information on a French unlimited raceboat from the 1930's. She was originally named "Aurora" when first built in 1935, but was later renamed to "Rafale V", and powered by a V12 Hispano Suiza engine developing a claimed 850BHP.
I'm trying to locate drawings or photgraphs of the boat - particularly anything which clearly shows her hull, which I beleive was a single stepped mono hull more akin to the boats built in the states in the 1920's.
Can anyone help with any information please?
Regards
Eddy

Hi Eddy,
Bingo , i have some photos of the boat, one showes the boat from the side hanging on the crane.Itīs two step with straight shaft and a very forward set turnfin.
Text from the photo says: Rafale V ,in endurance trim with supplementary tanks, show the principal characteristics of a stepped hydroplane. The successive projections along the hull bottom were designed to improve the speed and the rapid planing of the hull on the water. It was fitted with a V12 Hispano Suiza aero unit of 2196 cu.in. capacity.
Book is : Classic Speedboats,The Summit 1945-1962 by Gerald G.Guetat. MBI Publishing Company .Printed in Spain ,ISBN 0-7603-0916-7.
If you like i can make copys of all the pictures and send them to you by post.Let me know and sent me your adress by e-mail.

Many, many thanks Christian.... To be honest I have that book myself, but because the boat was built in 1935 I only looked in the "Classic Speedboats 1916-1939" edition. I never even thought about looking in the later volume!
So thankyou for the offer, but I don't need you to copy the photographs.

I personally think it's one of the most attractive boats ever built Jim. I'd prefer it if it had been a 3 point hydro rather than a multi-stepped mono, but hey you can't have everything can you? :-)
