I have an opportunity to get a Hacker 70 esc for cheap and was wondering if it is enough to power a Lehner Basic 4300 in a mono in racing form? Any suggestions?

I don't know about the 70, but some Hackers have trouble running on 6 cells. There was a change in software, and some do and some do not. The symptoms are are good start off the beach but a dead stop in a couple seconds. I believe it was the 77s which had this problem....but I'm not certain now. My 77 works great on 8 and 12, but I haven't tried it on 6.....

The older 70a controllers had this problem(labled 6-? cells), low voltage cut off. Likke Jay said they worked fine on the bench but once they were under load the pack voltage droped below the cut off and you end up with a dead boat. I still have one that I use in an 8 cell boat. The newer 70a controllers do work on 6 cells.

The hobby store that I bought it from has had it on the shelf for about a year and was just looking to get rid of it. Precisely when it was made, I'm not sure. Is there a way to tell whether this one has the new programing for 6 cells? Or perhaps a rough date when Hacker changed the programing for the 70 controler?

Look at the ends of the controller where the wires come out. If you see black goo sealing up each end to seal it up it is an old model. If you can see daylight through it or that it appears to have nothing sealing up the ends it's a new version that will run 6 cells no problem. The new ones are waterproofed like the Castles.

(the old one will run 8-12 cells no trouble)

Good luck,
Dick

What do you have to do to make a 77 run on 14 cells. I couldn't get it to work so I had to run on 7 cells all day. Looked good with 7 gp3300s.

Make sure it says Hacker Master "NAVY". The navy controllers are waterproof, the regular Hacker Master 70's are airplane controllers and NOT water proofed nor are they pistol grip radio compatible. You would have to rubber band the trigger all of the way forward on your transmitter to get it to arm.

Good luck,
Dick

I'm 0 for 2 on this question.
The 77 should love 14 cells and should not run on 7! Are you sure it's not the 70 you are referring to?

Dick i'm going to have to get back to you after checking that out. I am pretty sure it is a 77, I remeber that the conroller could handle the cell count but the BEC was only good up to twleve cells and you had to dissable the BEC to run 14.

I didn't think they made a 77 with BEC. They do make a 70 with or without BEC but both the 77 and 99 don't have it. I'm pretty sure anyway.

Dick you are correct the 77 and 99 are for high cell counts and do not have bec

OK, being more in line with this thread. How do you make a Navy 70 run on 14 cells. It looks like I have a 70-3P which according to the instructions is happy to take 6 to 16 cells. It does work fine on 7 but put in 14 and nothing.:(

How do you make a Navy 70 run on 14 cells

Very easy.. YOU DON'T unless you want to buy a new controller

well if this controller does not work with 14 how many cells can it run on and just why does it say it can on their instruction set that came with it.

never mind your right it will run 6-16 cells... was thinking something else

check the pack.. if it works on 8 it should work on 14 if the pack is right.

try it on 12 and see what it does

Something isn't right. Perhaps you have a bad connection on one of your battery plugs? Mine works fine on 14. I'll check it out at the race this Sunday if you are there and you remind me.

Hmmm.....I used mine with 16 cells today running a Hacker 12xl and it didn't seem more then warm after each run.Yours should run the same cell count.Hope you get your problem solved....

still working on it. We thinks it has something to do with the BEC and if the cell count gets to high the controller won't operate. I did fiddle a little with it but the wife wants our kitchen put back together. Remodel in progress. I can't wait to see my boat tear it up on 14cells it runs well on 7 but can't quite keep up.
