Does one HAVE to run the maximum cell count for any particular class, or can it be less? For example can I run an 8 cell boat in a 9-12 cell class? Just curious...

Just a quick question. What was the name of the class you were inquiring about, again?

Only if the 8 cell boat you are trying to run is a hydro and you are trying to run it in a 9-12 cell mono class. :D

kevin it must be nice to have so much time on your hands.

Doug I meant any class really. I'm guessing from your reply it's different for certain classes. Can you let me know which ones?

Dan,

All classes have defined cell ranges from M to S
in NAMBA. You cannot run a N2 boat in O classes (O is 7-8 cells)or an O boat in P classes (9-12 cells) etc. However, you can run an M class boat in N2 classes as N is defined as 1-6 cells (not 5-6 cells).

Hope this answers your question.

Do you really think that anyone is going to agree to allowing you to run on 8 cells in any class that is 9-12 cells?

I'm just having a difficult time believing that anyone would even suggest that.

Thanks Steve I thought there was a class. I knew each class was defined as a certain cell count I was just wondering if it was a rule that you could not use less.

HI Kevin.

I don't think anybody would allow it, but I have "cheated" like this in order to force things to happen.

There were two boats entered in a class that, if not run, would let the points leader win for the season. He wouldn't enter his boat in the class, so it wouldn't run, and he would have the championship sewn up. The guy in second place could win for the season with a second place finish for the day.

I entered the class. Because there were 3 entries, the points leader HAD to enter to protect his position.

I ran the first heat, and all 4 boats were in it. After the heat, I went to another one of the guys in the heat and showed them I ran with an 8-cell boat. This caused me to be DQ'd for the heat, and I withdrew from the class. But since the first heat had already been run, they couldn't stop the class from running (which still had 3 entries).

This forced the points leader to actually RACE to win the season championship. I forget what happened, but it irked me so much about him not wanting to run that I HAD to do this.

I don't see really what the issue is running less of a cell count anyway. Hell if someone can run an 8 cell boat and win against 12 cell boats all the more power to them. I say why not.

Andy you're sneaky LOL!!

Heres another one. What if I wanted to run my 8 cell boat in a 12 cell class and I ran 9 cells in my boat but only had 8 hooked up. Would this pass as legal. I see no where in the rules that they HAVE to be connected. LOL

They HAVE to be connected. Any CD would tell you that - the rules are based on power specifications, and a detached cell is not part of the power system. It doesn't say if they need to be in series or parallel, though, so you could run them in parallel if you wanted but that would be counter-productive because of the laws of physics (I^2 R losses).

An M2 Hydro runs a 5-lap heat only 9 seconds off an N2 Hydro and is only 9 MPH off the N2 SAW record.
