I'm planning on going brushless for the first time, i'd have done it earlier, but i didn't have that kind of money until my summer job this year :D

So... the question is, what would be a good all around motor to start with and what ESC to acompany it? I'm looking for mild-modefied power, i'd rather have equal power to what i have now and longer run times as oppose to more power and equal run times.

I don't know why, but i've been looking at the Aveox motors more than 'the others'... good choice?

I'd like it to be a direct bolt on change from a 540 if possible, 1/8th shaft, etc...

Sensored, or not? I will be running it in an outboard, so i was thinking sensorless because i don't want those 5 or 6 tiny wires aswell as 3 large ones to deal with going from hull-to-motor. Benefits of sensored over sensorless, or are there any?

Just basic questions... but i want to make a good purchase, this will be my only motor purchase so it has to be good :)

BTW, i was looking at # 1406/1.5 at http://www.finedesignrc.com/motors.asp#AVEOX%20Brushless%20Motors

If you are replacing a 540 it's a safe bet you need a 6 cell motor. Next question is what kind of hull? how long do you want to run it for(racing or sport). What color do you like:D Thats a joke
Do you want it in a gear box? or direct drive.
All of these will help with the answer.

:)

It will be direct drive, tunnel hull, 6C Sport (I dont race) and im looking for like 12-19T 540 motor preformance (not set in stone).

Right now im running a 19T Chameleon, direct drive. I'm looking for a slight increase in power, and longer run times - that would be ideal, but just guidelines.

I'm more for 8+ min runs and decent speed rather than 3 min of high power...

24" long, close to 11" wide, outboard.

i have nothing to acuratly measure the weight with, sorry. probably about the weight of 3 6C NiMH Stick-Packs when its fully loaded, hard to tell though.
