ok in my metals class i made a cannon (just a model one) but it is so cool, i made a recoil on the pricipal of a parallagram so if fired (not going to) the cannon would come back and go down @ the same time! well i got this all finished this week and today was the MITES compatition! (Michigan Industral Technology Education Sosciety) it is just a compatition that michigan has where u take all the stuff that i make in class and it is judged, well i took 1st in regional! now i get to go to state compatition! and mt teacher expects me to do very well! i will get some pics up as soon as i can! it is all sandblasted so it has a grayish look to it! but im so stoked! -Jeff

p.s. it is very capable of being fired, but i have more sense than that! plus the bore on it is 1" i dont think that i'll want to hit somthing w/ a 1" anything!

Jeff,

Seems to look good...

Can you post a pic of it ?

making cannons are neat,a friend of mine is great doing that kind of stuff and he made one that shoots golf balls. we sat up a old truck hood and at 50 feet shot a golf ball all the way through it using black powder.... man was it loud !!!!

one time i used acetaleen in my potato gun, i put a potato threw a 1" piece of OSB it was so cool! and there was like a 10' flame that shot out too!

Check out the pic of me:D in my signature.
Its a heavily modified M-72 rockettube/lancher charged with a tennisball and a cad explosive.
Range: ca. 400m/1300 feet.

Venger, I think with all the cad work your doing, and the cool ideas (mostly) you'll be doin some really good things for the hobby, that canon was cool, if it fired I could've of used it to scare that rat LOL, but I think you have a knack for this machining engineering gig,,, keep it up!!!, cheers eddie

heres a picture of my friends cannon, its all stainless except the wheels. shoots golf balls great. made using the equiptment from his job site. he drives a 3 foot rod through the hole in the back to keep it from moving. you should see this thing shoot, as I said it will put a golf ball through a car hood.................COOL :D

Mine is all just CRS (cold rolled steel) exept for the base i made that out a piece of channel iron! it cost me 1.16 to build the entire thin (for the 1 foot of channel iron!) I wanted to use stainless but that is much harder to work w/ and i would have actualy had to pay for it! this entire thing was made out of scrap steel!

yeah, my friend is in the maintenance dept of a factory so he has access to tools and material for about any project. he makes parts for a lot of their machines, its a piece of cake for him, I could spend days trying and still have scrap when I got finished. keep at it you have a real talent that can serve you for a lifetime with the proper training.

when I was young and very foolish, we used to take an aluminum umbrella pole, soak a tennis ball in gasoline, jam it in the ground and shoot it, man that was STUPID!!!!!!!!! But the cannon is cool, I remember when I was a kid, someguy had this small brass cannon, it fired, but i think it was just black powder and a patch, no projectiles,,,, with everything going on today I don't even want to fool around with that stuff, somebody might get the wrong idea,,, LOL, cheers eddie

Venger, friend of mine gets these shooting mags, and in the back are plans for a 22 caliber civil war gattling gun! now this would be cool, or how bout a nice steam turbine, might make an interesting boat project!!good luck, cheers eddie

hey Eddie, I remember those, they have been around for a long time. A friend of mine is a toolmaker at a mojor car company (damnear Chrysler) and he made one back in the early 80's, it was really neat. it was about as accurate as a broom but sure was fun to shoot. I always wanted one but don't have the skills to do :D :D

ok guys remember i have to do this at school! i dont think that i could make a gattling gun in class and get away w/ it! im lucky that i had not gotten in deep @*$& for making that cannon.... i had to weld in the breech in the back just cuz it was "to real" ~Jeff

Venger, that leaves a nice steam turbine!, LOL, you don't have to put a firing pin on the gattling, make it smaller!, a replica so to speak, run it off those plastic caps, did you know the gattling gun was invented by an MD?? wanted to make war so horrible nobody would be up for it, boy are we some dumb animals LOL, anyway also check out this months international marine modeler, a guy made a pre wwI out of metal. fantastic even if it is french LMAO, if you can't get the mag, monday i'll scan it and send it to you, if your ever in new york city, stop by rockefeller center i think the bldg is 510 5th avenue, inside in a showcase is a model of a french airplane called the question mark, it flew the return of lindbergs flight, the cool thing it was made by tiffany's and it is made completely of silver!! now that is a neat project, anyway the world is full of cool things to build, just nose around a little, cheers eddie

at that compatition there were a ton of steam engines... they didnt do well! but there were some cool little tanks there! look at the pic... the tanks were made from alluminum and the boddy was one big chunk... the treads were a big chunk (they came off of the body and the turret was one big chunk and the barrel screwed in! i think that i might want to do one of those next year... but bigger and out of stainless! (shin the piss out of it!)

Eddieh i'll e-mail u some more pics from there! there was a sand-rail...hovercraft...tons of other cannons...really bad ass plastics projects!

Venger, to tell you the truth, I liked your cannon better as there was engineering involved, now unless that tank did something, well it's just a sculpture, it's making it do something!that's cool, I am sure that if you built a steam turbine, then hooked the take off shaft to the an 05 motor drive shaft, then had it running (the steam engine) the 05 would act like a small generator, power some lights in a miniature house or something, that would be cool, and if that doesn't get a reaction that's why you built the gatling gun! LOL, My brother once built this underwater habitat for a couple of gerbils, he took a big glass bottle, put some wood chips etc, inside, and then put it in a 50 gallon fishtank, then he used the air pump into the jar, there were two holes in the lid, one where the air hose went in, one just open, well it was really cool, he put gold fish and plants etc around the outside, he had to put a chunk of something on the bottle to hold it down, but it was neat the excess air would bubble out of the jar, I think those gerbils were crapping themselves though, seeing all those fish on the outside, he should of called that "voyage to the bottom of the pee",,,,, LOL point is it was very simple but it did something,,, keep at it jeff (venger), cheers eddie

i think that i'll try the hamster cage thing at home just for fun!:D i couls make the gattling gun in pieces bring them home and build it... but i think that i am going to make the tank as one project (hollow out the inside and put a tiny motor in there and a gear on the turret and make it turn! that would be cool!)...but i need 4 to do! (i can enter more than 4 i could enter 10 but they all have to be in different catagories!) i'll figure the rest out later... i know that i want to do a CNC project too! i was thinking a turbine pnuematic motor!

Well one of my freinds is making a go cart with a snomobile engine I think its 600cc with cherry bomb mufflers. He also is thinking of making a propane powered spud gun after the go cart. I told him not to blow himself up.

me and my buddies found a geo metro w/ the 3cyl. engines in it.(it's free) it runs and only has 126,000mi but the body is shot and there is no hope for the thing as a car... so what we are planing to do is take the entire front engine/transaxle, suspension and all...going to make a "sand-rail" kind of frame and just grafting the engine onto the back of the frame

Eric B
07-07-2002, 04:54 PM
My friend already has the frame done. It is a sand rail type of frame. He did some figuring with the rpm and torque of the motor and he said if geared right it would have no problem going over 70 MPH. Well see about that figure, but for being about 7 ft long and very light with a 600cc engine I bet it will fly.

the best part about the car is it is a carborator system so there are just about no electrics in the entire car! just the ignition! and the ignition is a points system so we dont have a computer to mess w/! it will be sweet!

Dont ask me where but my friend got that engine for forty bucks. It wasnt running but now he has it going with the cherry bombs, it doesnt have that nice snowmobile engine sound anymore!
