Come join us and the rest of your FE friends at Michigan Cup VI The Nats.
Sponsored By Fine Design Marine and Fullers Fast Electrics.Hosted by MId Michigan electric unlimiteds. The tentative dates will be June 9th thru June 13th.
All NAMBA classes will be open for registration plus our normal MichiHio offshore classes and 8th scale as well.
We will have a web page up in the future like last year to help us gauge the entrees, class structures and equipment we will need to pull this one off.
We are actively seeking a full time non partisan Guest CD for this event.Compensation will be available to the right person.Any equires would need to be forwarded to our club treasurer Terry Davis.
To help Kick the 2005 NAMBA Nationals off, Ray Fuller of Fullers Fast electrics has decided to offer an Official 2005 NAMBA Nationals pace boat to be awarded at 1:00 on open water day ready to race the next day.WAY TO GO RAY !!!!more details later.
Terry has been busy calculating an expected turn out from contacts and we are figuring to see a staggering 45 to 50 racers from all over the country and Canada.
If you are a FE hobbeist dont let your sanctioning affiliation get in your way.Lets make this the biggest FE event ever. From first timer to old timer NAMBA to APBA. Batavia to IMPBA It would be great to see you.If you are a manufacturer,You are welcome to set up your table and show your wares at no cost other than if you need a tent or chairs.More details later.....Dennis Whitt and The MMEU gang !!!!

MMEU,
I think you should seriously consider the number of entrants (Paul is guessing 50), the number of boats (Paul wants 375), the number of heats, the number of multiple-heat classes before you go adding non-National classes to the roster.
Are you willing to give up those 7-8 minutes between heats (even of the same class) that you had in Florida? Remember, the ones that certain people complained a few times about being "too short"!??!
We ran 24 to 30 heats each day in Florida. 32 would be do-able on that schedule, 35 would strongly not be recommended.
Unless you are willing to give up a lot of the atmosphere that made Florida enjoyable for everybody (relaxed 7-8 minute between-heat schedule, potty break after Round 1, lunch break after Round 2, open water for several hours after Round 3, getting done around 3:30), or you add another day of racing (I would prefer that myself), you shouldn't go hog wild on non-essential classes.
BTW, the lunch break gave me the time to answer questions, do the raffle stuff, take care of paperwork for class standings and records, etc. It's pretty "essential" for those things to be done right. I even got a chance to scarf up a burger and fries (thanks Don) and a bottle or two of water.
Maybe a good way to do it would be to make the first day (Wednesday) the "Michigan" classes. Put them all together so that they don't interfere with the rest of the week of racing. Then you can easily have an Iron Man going into the weekend - think how cool it would be!
The worst part about the 1999 Nats and two MC races I attended was, IMHO, running until almost (or after!) sundown. I think we stumbled onto a really good schedule this past week. Think we can learn from it? One of the good things I saw running in NorCal twice was the shorter days.
From earlier conversations it sounded like Terry is going to be spearheading things, at least at this point. I typed him about 3 hours worth of my notes on Florida good/bad things last night. You guys ought to get together in a club meeting and read them. See if you can improve the good and get around the bad.

That's a pretty good idea IMHO We'll talk about that one for sure.
I'm already working on budget numbers and logistics. I have a list of 40 guys that I'm relatively certain will attend. 6 that I doubt can resist and who knows how many names have slipped my mind.
Andy, at MC5 we did have some later races but we did not race till dark. We are learning and getting better at every outing. I actually printed your email and made notes and will respond later today. Keep an eye out for a rule question in the main forum. There's one that really gets me fired up. Letter of the law kind of thing. 2 rules actually that rattle my cage.

Not till dark at MC - but it was pretty late. Rush hour was past.
The "till dark" was at 1999 Nats in FL. You could not see the boats on the water because the sun was only halfway above the horizon.

Andy, not that our AZ race is going to be huge, can you send me a copy of the notes? Maybe Terry can foward it to me. We want to start out on a good foot, if we can learn from our and others experiences we should put up a decent venue and race.

I've had requests from several race sites about this. I'm going to write it up and e-mail it to everybody who asks when it's ready.
Terry's letter included some personal stuff as well as stuff to share, and some stuff particular to MI. What I send you all will cover the stuff in better format.

haha Some of it made me giggle. Andy knows our club pretty well.
A lot of Andy's concerns parralleled my own concerns. Full of things we've stubbed our toes on before. I think it's a great idea to spread the info. Maybe a how to thread. Anything that other organizers have stumbled into (in generic terms) could be added to the thread.
Something as simple as frequency clips. If you forget until race day then your scrambling. Toilet locations. Toilet quantaties. We had too few. Power requirements. A seperate table/area for a radio impound and someone to manage it for larger races. We needed it last year and didn't realize it. Absolute must for MC6.
See there's a ton of stuff you just don't think of unless you've screwed it up. LOL
