Hi guys,

I have an idea to design my own rigger-style boat. I have never designed a boat, and just use my imagination and the aerodynamics I know (very little).

I wan the rigger-style boat to be able to carry 32 cells and a GPS receiver (eTREX).

For starters, how long shall I make the rigger's hull?
Is it just to put the boat's future contents on the floor and measure the length? Or should I think about anything else regarding the length?

Where do I put the two sponsons?

Any help is appreciated!

Here's how I would approach it:

I would start by upscaling the 12-cell rigger I designed, which in turn I scaled up from a 6-cell rigger I designed, which was an adaptation of a 6-cell that I built from a kit.

I stopped at the 12-cell rigger, as riggers are not as much interest as Sport hulls.

Walk before you run.

Andy That's sounds very good, but how do you know how much to scale up, is it by the number of cells??? ie 6 cell rigger so and so, 12 cell rigger twice that?? I really don't have any clue, any input would be great, cheers eddie

Well, I can walk and run, so now I want to fly with my boat :-)

I have an idea about making the hull in plastic so I can get fast turnaround times for new protypes ( I am now wood builder - yet).

How about the CG: where is it usual to put that?
