Doug F.
Do you have any set-up info for the hydromite? I am almost done putting on the hardware. What i would appreciate is the CG, Strut depth, Strut angle, And if the nose of the strut touches the tunnel or not. Any help would be great, because the only hydro I have built was straight shaft. I will post pics when I'm done. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Nate
As a starting point in set up, I would recommend:
Strut depth- shaft centreline approx. 3/8" to 7/16" below
tunnel roof.
Strut/Propshaft angle- start out with the propshaft parallel to
tunnel roof.
CG - approx. 1 1/4" to 1 3/8" aft of sponson step
Any further adjustment will depend upon ride attitude at speed.
Hope this helps,

Dug thank you very much. I will start with this and get Reed Eagles' advice on trimming further(I'm not too good on the trimming out thing).

Hi,
I’m Antonis and live in Greece.
We don’t have many (I believe not at all) hydros here.
Thanks to Doug I build my first scratch build boat, the hydromite.
I don’t finish it yet (still waiting the hardware and prop).
I use: Graupner V40/60 speed control, 480 BB race motor, N1000SCR batteries, pico servo, Ikarus mini 6 receiver.
I couldn’t find the octura prop so I order the Graupner K29.
Due to my un-experience in hydros I have a few questions.
1. What about cooling?
2. Will be fast enough with the K29 or I have to find the Octura ones?
3. Do you see anything wrong from the pic’s (first scratch build but the plans was very good).
Thank you in advance.

Wow,
For your first try, I would have to say excellent job well done. I like the cowling that you made. Have fun running it. The k29 prop should be adequate to start with. If it runs cool enough then you could try a larger prop.

Hi Antomo/Antonis
Congratulations, your hydro looks excellent! I think you did a first-class job. Everything about your proposed set-up sounds like it should work OK. The 29mm prop should be a good starting point, especially with the 480BB motor which is a little hotter wind (fewer turns) than the 480 Race. This means it will turn more RPM on the same 7 cells and draw more amps. Water cooling, especially the brushes, would be recommended. This is all the more reason for starting with less prop.
Once again, you're boat looks great. Let us know how it runs (and maybe some pictures, if possible)

Hi all,
Thanks a lot for your reply and for your good words.
Doug do you ever install water cooling on brushes in the 480 BB motor?
If yes, could you please tell me how?
Yes the hydromite is my first scratch build also my winter project will be a 1meter scratch build inflatable with 40mm Graupner water jet propulsion system.

how does everyone get the equipment into the hullo? where do you locate everything?

I was studying the Hydromite drawings and felt that I needed a little more room. I have widened the existing tunnel by 1/4" and changed the sponsons some. I have done an initial fitting of my cut parts and have begun assembly. I'm using a Hughey Gear reduction unit, 6 cell and a ESC. I hope to develop a cowl to give the current look of the new nitro drag boats, for my motor is a little higher than a direct drive.
I failed to mention that I have produced a new Cad drawing and have made my first pass on corrections to my fitting of cut pieces. I'm sure I'll have to build a second one, for I think the sponsons length may not allow me to get the CG back enough. I have been trying to convert the drawing to a JPEG or GIF where I could post it here for your viewing.
