Proposed.

An 18 Cell Brushless Limited Sport Hydro.

We desire a class of large hydroplane, but with near open class speed. This requires brushless power. Yet we yearn for the close racing of LSH and N-1. An even playing field can be created by mandating a speed control type and brushless motor. We also wanted a boat that could run fast in rougher water.

This class shall consist of a scale type/like hydroplane. The aim is to cast our likeness in the somewhere near the 1/10 scale area.

The hydroplane must be a minimum of 31 inches in length.

Maximum is 34-1/2 inches.

Any beam dimensions are acceptable, but please, read the all of the requirements thoroughly to gain an insight as to what the spirit of the class is intended portray.

Any unlimited or limited design is acceptable outside of the 1969 Pay-n-Pack. I know, I know, this eliminates the Hydro and Marine 20+ cell Xcess rigger type vessel. Too bad. Any riggers, of any kind, will NOT be allowed.

Have a great idea for a boat that never made the water? Or perhaps just a hydroplane that never existed that you can make it look as though it had? Fantastic! Do it! Just think of how our club runs LSH and build on that idea. Fun.

These next two items make up the heart of this class. Much thought and consideration has gone into this so keep that in mind.

Motor. A racer may use an Aveox motor.
A racer may use a Nemesis Motor.

Wind? No one knows yet so the wind is up to you.

Max performance is key, as is the ability to finish 5+ laps and durability. That said, if you think you wish to try a motor of a 2,121 RPM per V rating, go nuts. Simple math will illustrate that spinning a motor at over 64,800 RPM is foolish beyond any technical terms That I may employ.

Speed control: Castle. Pheonix, Barracuda, it's up to you, but just the Castle brand.

18 cells sub-C.

No lipos. No hydrogen fuel cells. No group 24 lead acids.

Gear drives are allowed.

One shaft, one prop.

Ride shoes: Sure, why not. Hey, if you have a ski hanging of the underside that makes a hydrofoil envious, then no.

Lets try by mid season to have most of the cosmetic work done. Understandably, a 1/10 driver may be tough to find if needed, but hey, let's give it a shot.

If, at the end of the year we get together and re-evaluate the evolution of the class, i. e. speeds are too slow, speed controls and/or motors are exhibiting undesireable behaviours (destroyed) , the suppliers or manufacturers are no longer able supply the Castle/Nemesis/Aveox components, such changes can be implemented. If 20 cells work better, that's what we will do. In the future if one wind of a brand works so well, maybe we mandate that motor. No guesswork. Just tune the set up, race and have fun.

Once we get this dialed, this will be the fastest, biggest limited hydros around.

Three boats exist already under the class guidelines.

If I have missed anything or if you have specific issues, contact me via the club page on rum runner or norristhermador@hotmail.com

Klete F.
