Lets just put the struts under the hulls of the drag boats and make Dan happy, It is not worth loosing a friend over such a small thing. I care about the friendship more.

I thought I was doing it for the good of FE and nothing more.

Like you did with the Spirit of the Eagle??? That was for the good of FE??? :bs:

You guys should do what ever you think is right, just don't let Randy BS you into thinking that mounting a strut under a boat is going to leak or takes rocket science. Ask any nitro racer or any 1/8 scale F/E racer. There will be rudders hanging 9 inches off the back before long without a rule to restrict the length of strut beyond the transom. All the boats will look like toxic rocket because we all know that a rigger will be faster.

If I wanted a boat that was pure speed without the scale handling, I would just go race SAW, there is no need for Drag Boats.

Anyone that wants their checks back for the timing system let me know, they have not been deposited yet.

Dan,

Does somebody think bottom-mounted struts leak? I did them waaaay back for some 1/16th boats. The first one I did leaked a little - a lot more came from around the hatch.

The second one I got smart and had no problems. Silicone makes a great seal, even if you open it up and bolt it down again.

If that isn't enough for you, you can build a water-tight box around the inside of the adjustable part and use blind nuts to connect it to the bottom. You simply unbolt it from the bottom, make the adjustment, and bolt it back in. Works great - kinda like one of the "wet sumps" that they use in bass boats, but in reverse.

Dan and Randy, lets calm down some. Step back and take a look at the big picture. This whole thing is over something in which we don't even have a rule for yet!! Right now we're all building our first boat(s), prototypes if you will and playing with different setups. Lets save the real arguments for when we start writing the rules. THEN we can act like the rest of the Namba members. hehe

Like I said in another post, I have a Volcanic Splash that I converted to a dragboat, so I'm going to have two versions. The Splash is obviously going to be nothing more that an O Sport Hydro with the cowling changed and a hemi engine slapped on it. The new one is going to look as close to the real thing as I can make it.

When we have rules, then I'll race whatever we agree on. Until then, I'm racing both so lets get the lights and get on with it. Hell, now I'm sorry I asked the original question on how to seal the stut. I didn't know it was going to cause such a stir.

Well said Greg.

I had no idea this was such an issue. I am willing to do whatever is decided by the group.

I'd also like to add that in no way did I intend create a problem by asking for opinions.:(
