I'm building a 50's era 45 sport hydro and I want to maintain the scale looks by using a straight shaft. My problem is that I have no idea where to start in relation to prop size or type. Also I guess before I go ahead and install everything is it even feasible to use a staight shaft. It would make adjustments nearly impossible, but I'm not looking to set any speed records.

I posted on your other thread. You'll want to take a look at our club web site:

We all pretty much use the same prop...Octura 447 R. We turn left in this club....just like the real thing

yes I've seen this website before. I'm building 3 hydros right now actually. 12 cell with a flex shaft, a 6-8 cell with a straight shaft and the 7.5 nitro with a straight shaft. Since I only own one other nitro boat and it's a 21 mono I have no idea what type of prop to use on this boat.

Thanks Randy, that's what I really wanted. I just needed some prop starting points. I have a great collection of props 30-45mm, but didn't know where to start on bigger boats.
I have a K&B 7.5 that I am planning on using in the boat.
