Andy what type of material do I need for top and bottom of the hull I want to use ply.

I used 1/32" mahogany but 1/32" birch ply will work as well.

It's straightforward model airplane techniques. If you've ever built a stick-and-tissue model, this is just the same thing.

There might be more hints in the Flying Models article for the 20" version.

Sorry dont do airplanes but have built riggers from kits.Do I need to soak the wood for the top to get it to stay in shape??

Yup. Hot! water, preferably with ammonia (or windex) OUTSIDE to help it bend. And lots of patience.

Ply won't bend well at all.

You can use boiling hot water and Downy Fabric softner to soak the wood in. it works great. The ratio is 1 (Downy) to 12 water. Let it soak for 1 hour and keep the water as hot as possible.
