Hi all i took my boat out this morning it was my second time all together, yesterday i ran the boat and used 1 full set of batterys gp3700 and all was fine just a little salt water. i took the boat home to check all is sealed and give a good clean out.

today i did exactly the same thing and this time no water nice and tightly sealed but half way thru my fun the esc blew.

i took the cowl off and a great white (not shark) smoke blew out and i found the wires from the esc to motor had melted off & the shrink wrap had also melted, after i got home i disassembled the esc and found it was completely burnt

WHY?

the setup is mhz flash hull, feigao 540/9xl castle creations barra 80/ 12 cells with a 40mm carbon prop.

i didnt bother to stop and check for temp as i presumed that this is underdone with prop size and so wouldnt overheat.

the motor is watercooled but the esc is not

i was not running full speed but varying the speed slower in the corner but was not able to go all out as it was too bumpy in the straights.

I dont understand why the esc burnt like that as far as i can figure the whole system is underdone can some explain what went wrong?

is there a better esc i can use that comes with cooling built inn that i can run at slower speeds if needed,? if that was my problem.

ps. the reverse was off, and starting power was low,

Thanks all for your help in advance.

Peter, they seem to have a MAJOR problem with burning fets, or FETs just falling off the board!

just before i went to HV a FET fell off my BC125...just they other day my BC80 went up AGAIN (about the 4th one now)Setups ran fine (ie i was usingthe BC 80, then swapped to the 125 and the 125 fell apart) the 80 died in a much more mild setup than i was reccommended (8xl X640 prop Doug. Tw rigger Hull 12 GP 3700's)
