I bought a Lehner Basic 5300 a couple years ago from Rum Runner.

I was checking it out and lubing the bearings for the spring, I noticed a tight spot while rotating the shaft. Almost like a brushed motor when the armature lines up with the magnets. I don't think it's the bearings.

Truthfully I don't remember if it was like that all along, but my Lehner XL3600 doesn't have it. It's resistance free all the way around when rotating it.

Does anyone do repair work on them in the states? If not, how does the endbell come off? Is it pressed or threaded?

Thanks guys!

I believe they are threaded.

That is not good. Did you ever heat up this motor> Like more than 160 degrees??? Did you ever drop it?

If this occurs twice per one revolution it is probably a shortcht in the windings, this can happen when the motor gets too hot or if you use too long screws in the motor mount.
But unfortunately it is not repairable, you will need a new can, this actually means a new motor.
To open the motor the front endbell has a thread, you need to turn it counter clockwise. As it is additionally glued with thread lock you will need to clamp the motor and attach a 5 to 10 inch lever at the front endbell to get enough torque to loosen it.
