I just purchased and assembled my first electric R/C boat – a Kyosho BlueStreak. I took it to the lake for the first time this past weekend and was a little disappointed at the speed abilities of it. I NEED MORE SPEED!!!

Keeping my cheapo BlueStreak - how can I get more speed? I would like to replace the stock motor with a faster motor (but must be over 15T for work with my Novak Rooster ESC), as well to upgrading any other parts that will lead to an increase in speed.

Being new to boating, I just don't know what good choices are out there for faster motors. What would you guys recommend for a faster motor/pinion combination? I read an review of the Blue Streak that recommended a Trinity Speed Gems 2 Ruby (16T Triple) - any thoughts on that? Would a upgraded prop help (and what is the difference between 2 blade and 3 blade propellers)? I noticed I could get Control Tabs to help the handling - what are those about also. I plan to get a stronger battery pack - but any and all other advise you can give me as a boating newbie would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
fish

Fish, if it were me , I would go with a graupner speed 700 8.4, direct drive, to me it is a way to get a lot of bang for the buck, (around 40 usd for the motor) , another thought if your into experimenting, I am pretty sure the stuffing tube that the current driveshaft is in will also house a flex shaft from graupner, (4mm shaft etc) I run this on one of my electrovees in a similar setup but without that ujoint connection, I don't like the u joints, but that is just me, anyway that is something to play with over the winter (I will let more knowledgeable guys answer about the gear ratios etc,) as for the trim tabs, these are set to adjust your boats attitude in the water and stop the porpoising and adjusts the boats attitude through the turns, props are always a good thing to experiment with, you can buy props by pitch (basically width) and diameter (height) , it can take plenty of experimenting to find out which is the best so buy the plastic ones first till you get it dialed in, anyway welcome to the board, I am sure you will get more info then you could hope for here, cheers ed
