View Full Version : Allison Engine
I know I'm not in the build any longer But did receive the Allison Engine I ordered from Pete at Lou's fastrc. And the service was outstanding - received it very quickly, Packed very well! And the quality of this twin turbo Allison is a thing to behold. Absolutly outstanding detail.. Well worth every penny!
Thanks Pete
Since your other thread about your build was all blanks, I buried it.
So what about this little engine? Got any pics? You gonna at least paint it and then hold it up and make vroom-vroom sounds? :D
Oh Tom it will go in a Hydro! I will post some pics in a bit - I was in shock at the detail on this thing! It will not go to waste I promise that!
Pictures don't do this justice
Looks very nice!
That's 1/16 scale? Same as the balsa kit?

That's beautiful, Doc! Is that one of Lou's kits??? How did you do the chrome plating?

Dan,
It's cast resin (weighs a ton), it's the full height engine, from the fuel injection "tunnels" to the oil pan. It comes out of a box, just as you see it here.
Holy crap!!!!!! :yeah:

Tom,
I might be able to get more of them if you are interested.
If you cut the "Farmer John" air filter off and made a new intake scoop, you could have a convincing "display" engine. It's too big and heavy to race.
Interested? http://www.fototime.com/81505A877F7B999/orig.gif

Tom,
That's the one. The center engine is removable. There's a guy that wants to sell me a case of the engines. They made 350 of the tractors, but they made extra engines (over and above the 3 that were on that tractor).
As an aside, can you imagine the sound that thing made with 3 souped-up Allisons crackling at wide-open throttle? It's no wonder it's called "The Money Pit".
If you buy the case, I'm down for one or more of the engines.
I would love to see these pulling beasts in person!

Not sure if I will do it, the total for the case will be at least four digits to the left of the decimal point. I'm not sure I want to sit on that kind of inventory, but it is the only supply of 1/16 scale Allison engines I have found.
Whoa! Well, how many is in a case?

I think he said there were 40 of them.
That's quite a lot. Maybe you can negoatiate for a 1/4 case? ;)

Yeah, 40 is a bit much. I doubt there are 40 people on the planet that want a 1/16 scale full-sized Allison with that Farmer John air intake.
Now that you found the tractor it belong on, you know why I call it a "Farmer John" modified Allison. :rolls:

volker, you can get the allison kit from doug campbell at www.classichydros.com it is a balsa kit and if you have some modeling skills they can be made to look very very realistic here is a 1/16th version I did from the kit.
