So the first question is...are each of the ESCs quick tested before sending them out?
I want to move to BL and use your stuff but I am hesitant because I have heard many have gone poof for no reason...so they say.
I'm in Mo and in KC all the time...may just get mine from your shop some time.

Jeff...better than that...each controller is tested to its respective amp limit prior to shipping while hooked up to a scope to verify it's functioning properly. Despite what you may hear, most controller failures in boats are due to overcurrent..it's just none of us like to admit it. :) MYSELF INCLUDED!!! HEHEHE If by some chance it was a manufacturers defect, we'll replace it free of charge up to 1 year from the date of purchase. If the user fries it, we still have a very good replacement plan. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance. I'm more than happy to help.

Thanks for the positve info, Joe. You are at the right place to get to know your customers...plenty on here that already own them.

Hi Joe,
Glad to see a Castle Creations rep here...and Welcome. I've been a fan of your controllers for aircraft for years.
Maybe you can help shed some light on the Barracuda issue that I'm having. Occasionally, when the throttle is advanced, my Barracuda is "single phasing." Here's a link I found that shows what I'm talking about:
http://www.rcflix.com/photopost/data/2/2866slow_v_401.mov
It seems that this "single phasing" is what happens soon before the controller melts down. What do you make of the "single phasing" phenomena, and do you think it's related to the melt down? I've heard some say that this scenario can cause "lock rotor" amp draw and fry the ESC. Is that possible?
For what it's worth, in regard to amp draw, we've run Eagletree recordings on a boat that ultimately fried a Barracuda and the peak amp draw during Eagletree recordings (running the boat full blast and as hard as we could) was less than half the rating of the ESC. The interior of this craft has always stayed dry and it has short wire leads.
Please be aware that my intentions are toward getting a resolve on the issue and not to complain or be derrogative. I only mentioned the amp draw recordings because my concern is that the issue with the ESC isn't likely to be fixed until it's correctly identified.
Many thanks for your time and consideration...WattKnot

Joe,
Good to see you here.
Bernie tells me there is some very tantalising product in the pipe. Look forward to more excellent products from Castle Creations. Thanks for the resolution of the startup problem.
I like downloading new Castle software there is always a little surprise like the helicopter mode on the recent Phoenix updates

I suspect Bernie eluded to the Barracuda 180A controller? The first prototype is being tested by Jim Vaughn as we speak. Preliminary results are excellent. Perhaps he'll stop in and give us all an update.

The new 180A controller coupled with the new software is indeed a significant improvement. I've tested them with 12 and 18 cells, NEU motors, and SAW set-ups, with NO water cooling. I've gotten cells hot enough to vent in just a couple of passes, but the controller's big green heatsink is just at 110 degrees! This new design has significantly more mass than the Bara 125, and employs six capacitors and leads large enough to handle the high current. If I can't blow it up, it's likely that only the Snowman can! Good job Castle Creations :)

Jim,
Thanks for the vote of confidence, I think. I tried to Kill 3 reprogramed b125's last weekend. I couldn't do it. That included 12 laps in my LiPo'd up P hydro (5 lap time, 43 seconds). The ESC was only 109 after the run!!!

I've asked about getting baracuda progaming in the HV110. Everyone who's interested should fire off inquiries to Joe and Bernie just to show our interest. I'd have use for 4 of them right now.
I've talked to a couple vendors and they are chomping at the bit to have an HV baracuda.

Brian I know of a couple of more... (vendors) a long time ago castle said Ray was taking the lead on the HV 110 navy version,
on an aside do you think that it could handle a 2280 lehner and 32 if it was available??? that would be sweet and probably open up the flood gates for 1/8th as I think most people will eat the motor cost, but balk at a 600 dollar controller

I spoke to Joe the other day. He said to have people start writing emails to them if they are interested in a 110hv. I suggested to him that there is more interest than they think. He said there is just little interest in it right now. Time to start the email campaign.
