I have been working on a new model the Micro Turbine Hydro. It has a unique hatch arangement for easy entry and tape down. It has a flat to deck hatch to tape down and a turbine cowling that goes on the top of the boat and does not interfear with the tape down. Check it out!

$29.95 and the new inner cowling will make the top cowl fit tighter.

What is the L/W and weight of the bare hual. Looks fantastic and damn good price!
Looks real nice Randy. How long is the hull? What size motor does it require?
Randy Naylor
06-21-2006, 04:38 PM
It is 14.75X8.25 inches. The bare hull weights 7 oz. I like to run a motor like this one
Specification:
KV 3100
Dimension 28x47.5mm
Diameter 13.5x2.3
Weight 130g
I also have a 28X15 with a KV 3000 that works great the longer can will give a bigger prop.
formed the new inner cowell this monrning.

The cowell hooks under the front and a band (big O ring) hold the back of the hatch on

Nice work Randy, good to see those hands havent been sitting idle. If I hadnt gone with the 'bigger is better' theory, I would be in.

Now That's What You Call Another Bby Masterpiece Randy!!!
That Thing Looks Like The Micro To Have Considering The Power Of Some Of The More Recent Brushless Motors.
I Can't Wait To Get My Hands On One!!!
I Bet They're Priced Very Reasonable Just Like The Rest Of Your Abs Masterpieces.

Thankyou for the specs. Should be intresting to see how fast the hual can be pushed.
I was looking at your Micro Patriot on the BBY site and didnt see any data for size.

Good what sort of speeds are you getting with your setup.
Randy Naylor
06-22-2006, 02:01 AM
I have not tried to run a speed run with the boat, we have focused on 4 minute Oval runs. With this setup 33MPH has been obtained, using seven FAUP1700 cells A Hacker B40 10L.

Wow 33mph set for the 4min run, so it could handle 50+ I bet your hydro really looks fast due to size. How does it handle rough water? VID VID :) When will they be ready to buy? Thankyou for providing a true micro hydro.

They are ready now. as far as 50MPH I would increase the lift a bit making it a stright line boat only, no wind at all then it could happen. Sorry I do not have any vids, hard to run and take a picture:-)

I will have some pictures of the first protp type it is a little thiner then the production unit. Will get them tonight.
Motors for this hull are 400 to 480 size is the best. too big of motor will make it ill handling but fast!

The blue can is a cell I think. Look on the other side, you can see 3 more under the deck beside the motor. Probably 3 on that side, 4 on the near side.
Randy Naylor
11-04-2006, 02:19 AM
Those blue things are cells! FAUP-1600's real old ones they have been replaced with the GP2200. I like to run 7 of them. The boat with the new mold is a lot taller too!
Yes, I make custom couplers, not my favorite thing to do but some times it is necessary.
I do not know what is up with the photo I burned a CD to get the photo to the web off of my old work computer and it is not connected to a server it has lasted a lot longer that way. I think that makes sense????

I just ordered one of these from Randy about 20 minutes ago. He told me what props he would suggest trying but I totally for got to write them down. I am pretty sure he said 31 -34 mm prop. I am going to run a MEGA 16/7/8 which is about the demintion of a short 400 and from my best guess it’s about 2125Kv. Do I need a lifting prop for this hull?

Well, I have the SSSH boats and the Twin MSC running well and I am about to embark on a new project. I have one of Randy's Micro Turbine hydros and here is the plan:
First, I plan to laser-cut a forward the bulkhead, motor mount, stringers and transom, very similar to the Classic Hydros kit. I'll use 1/32" ply. I plan to use the 2mm stainless straight shaft from MHZ along with the MHZ rudder. I found some CF tubes that will fit 2mm I.D. x 5mm O.D. ballbearings. I will use the tried-and true SSSH power system which should produce a boat that is (can you guess what is next?)
You guessed it.....
Fast Cheap and Out of Control.
Keep an eye out for this one. Construction will be quick and dirty, without a lot of finish detail, just enough to get it on the water for starters. I am going to post a build thread on the "Blue" forum.
If the laser-cut plywood bits work out, I'll give the AutoCAD files to Randy in trade for something like some more little hulls.

Can anyone recommend any motors for this hydro?
I see Randy went one route while Dr Jet another. Im a bit confused at what would work best.
Dr. Jet
06-23-2008, 10:08 PM
You could try this motor. It's a little hot at 5000 rpm/V, and it was WAY too much for this hull, but Randy's hull might handle it. This motor works well with a D/T X427.
Basstronics
06-23-2008, 10:27 PM
Well I was checking out the mincatracingusa site...
I see they are running a 20MM x 40MM with 2600 Kv @ 64 grams. Seems to be a small motor and hot dam them things look fast...
So Im just even more confused...
I will probably wait for a vid of your boat.
Dr. Jet
06-24-2008, 03:09 PM
Remember, the MiniCat is set-up for 3S LiPos. SSSH set-ups are 2S. The 2600 rpm/V inrunner in the MiniCat apparently needs cooling (cost and complexity), whereas the SSSH arrangement does not.
The SSSH power system is almost more than the H&M and MHZ shovelnose hydros can handle. The MHZ Miss Madison, being a bit larger, can handle a lot more motor. The BBY hull may be able to handle more power than the SSSH system I'm putting in it, but maximum speed is not the goal here. Rather, my goal is to use our accepted "Spec" power system and see how inexpensively I can put a race hull on the water.
Basstronics
06-24-2008, 08:01 PM
Well I cant wait to see what she does.

I am going to have a small hiatus in the MTH build over the first week in July. I’m going to fly my motorglider to Bishop and spend the week soaring the White Mountains and the Sierras.
Look for the first “sea trails” to be somewhere in the middle of July.

Here's a little update on this project. Joe Solinger is making a micro rudder for little hulls such as the BBY Micro Turbine Hydro! Aluminum brackets, spring steel kick-up rudder, very reasonable price. Sweet! There may be more interesting news in the future so stay tuned.

I had to modify the linkage location on the rudder to get it to work right. I've sent a note to Joe Solinger, and he may be able to make aa better-looking fix than my "blacksmithed" part.

Some of the SLOBS will be at Santee Lakes this Saturday (July 26) early in the am. The MTH will undergo sea trials at that time.

Things are coming together nicely with the MTH build. Joe Solinger has revised his rudder assembly, I have modified the drawings for the laser-cut frames, and the prototype is getting dialed in. I am seeing the same speeds as with the MHZ hulls, although cornering needs some work. I've increased the rudder throw and added a small non-trip to the inside of the right sponson.
I am about to order another run of frames for prototype 2. I moved the driveline 1/4" from centerline to counteract propwalk, raised the prop by 1/16" and improved the fit of the parts in the hull.
I still have two frames for prototype 1; one is assembled, the other is not. Anybody want one of these?
How much do you need for the prototype 1 hulls?
-Chris
Dr. Jet
08-06-2008, 09:08 AM
At the moment, I only have one prototype framework and stuffing tube left. No hulls; you have to get that from Randy. $15 will get it shipped to your door. I'll include a parts list to complete the build.
Dr. Jet

Here's a photo of the prototype 1 framework. Very light weight, but adds tremendous stiffness.

I managed to get one round of testing in yesterday before my Tx batteries went flat (forgot to charge the Tx the night before - duh!). I was satisfied with the results and sent the revised drawings to the laser guy for more frames. I may have a few sets left over after everyone on my current list gets one.
What a great little inexpensive setup. Kudos to Randy for dreaming this one up.
