Just wanted to thank everyone for such an entertaining thread. Heres my boat, its the '69 Straudacher hull, the strut and rudder are from Al. P. the motor mount and turn fin I made myself by hand. The motor is a trinity Power Gem Pyrite 10t. It will be replaced with a Lehner basic 5300 for racing. The cowl is from an old Electric Thunder boat and I still need to finish it.
But here she is. thx

Try going into your digatal camera's menu and change the photo size to small. It worked for me!

Here is a side shot, how do you like that tail art? It was hand painted, and a pain in the butt,

Thx guys. The 1/16 scale boats were my favorite, when Electric Thunder 12 yrs ago or so were in their prime I scooped up a handful of the boats they used to sell. When I came accross the contest build, It really caught my attention! Now I have the plans, and as long as Hobby Lobby sells balsa, I have an inexhaustable supply of boats coming in! I built this one in about two weeks. Thats on my days off. On this particlular hull I used contact cement on the deck. The next one I will attempt to use epoxy. I am concerned about the water resistance of the contact cement. It works great though. On my red racer, I still need to finish the cowl. The cowl is plastic but it doent fully cover the hatch opening. I am going to try and use 1/16 ply and cement the cowl over it to form a hatch cover. Unless someone has a different idea, i am open to all suggestions.

I found out that using that Miniwax Helmsman spar in a spray can, does a fine job of sealing the inside and outside of the wood. I shot down a couple coats then sanded it down, rinse and repeat. The finish turned out really slick. On my next project I will experiment. I heard that some folks have lamanated Mohagany to the deck using contact cement. I plan on just using varnish to get the color I want and just apply the miniwax over it. It should turn out nice, and I wont have to worry about the contact cement coming apart when it gets wet.
The boat hasnt seen water yet, been hard at work these past weeks. I still need a radio battery packs and a ESC and she will be ready. Once its running I will update my post and show pics ect.
