Well it seems that not everyone is having a great building experience for the contest, and some things have spoiled an otherwise dynamite experience, People deleting their entire build threads, because of some misunderstanding, name calling, and basically throwing a hissy fit.. bit childish IMHO not saying the point is not valid, but there is a civil way to do things... I know some of the prizes have yet to be awarded, that is being worked on, anybody who did not get their prize please send me an email or a PM, but it WILL happen.

I appreciate everyones efforts, and especially the vendors who have donated generously, ALL the vendors...

we will be having another build contest, and I am sure it will go much smoother....

...and I have been called to task for not recommending RCBM readers visit this site....what a fine testament to the fellowship of this hobby.....just what we want new boaters to read. Rodney King, where are you.

People deleting their entire build threads,

Are you serious! There was some very good info and tricks listed in those threads. Its a shame.

Steve, well maybe not people let's say person, but so be it, Jay on the whole I have to say there was (is) a tremendous amount of great info , and the camaraderie was very good, there was a snafu, and it was (is) being worked out, but folks react differently...

I just don't want it to distract from all the hardwork that was done by the builders, and there was some beautiful boats built, and some beautiful ones still being built,

I somehow envisioned a little different outcome is all....

I just don't want it to distract from all the hardwork that was done by the builders, and there was some beautiful boats built, and some beautiful ones still being builtAnd as another "good news" testament, let me just say that I stumbled across this competition quite by accident (after it was over), saw the free plans, downloaded them, and am now building the Notre Dame. This is my very first boat build ever (ok, I built a ship in a bottle when I was younger). I've been doing R/C planes for years but never boats, I kind of thought they were silly, but then I come here and realize that hey! These things require actual building! They can be detailed or made to look scale! They go awfully fast! My previous impression of RC boats must have been formed entirely from those toys at Wal-Mart or something.

At any rate, this contest hooked at least one new guy, and I'm hoping I can get a friend of mine into boating as well so we can race. I'll be happy to post my build thread here even though the competition is over.

And I'll be looking forward to the next competition!:)

Keep up the good work!

Eddie, the one reason I still post here is the good work that is being and can be done. But I have heard one too many times from newbies that this board is too hostile and flame-prone. It only has to happen a few times to drive folks off - and it happens too often. If they find it by themselves, fine. I am here to help.

Luke, - from Beaverton!

If you want to look at my boat as an example, let me know. Send me a personal message and i will give you directions to my place - and the pond that Bill, Brian and I frequent. Bring a paint bursh - you can help with the remodeling (our house, not a boat).

Glad to see another model boat builder in the area.

Luke,

That's what the contest was all about! Thanks for the kind words!!! :)

Aargh! I'm overwhelemed by responses! Garry Finlay only a few blocks away! What a deal!:lalala:
As a matter of fact, I just heard from Brian that you sometimes race in the pond at MurrayHill? If that's the case then I'm one lucky son-of-a-gun. It's that pond that got me started in all this mess to begin with. I recently moved to Portland and my apartment is literally about 30 feet away from that sucker. I figured being that close I really should look into putting some kind of remote-controlled contraption on it. :D I've already been flying my heli over it...

I'll be sending you a PM Garry - I'd love to see your boat. You might be able to rope me into painting your house, too, just maybe - if you answer some nagging questions I have about prop drives.;)

Just kidding about the house - although it is torn up pretty good. I love to show off the boats. Yup, MurrayHill is the spot. The fountains put the perfect "hydro-chop" on the water. It is a little small for some of Brian's boats - any pond is small for his boats.

Luke I think you could compare the advice you'll be getting from Gary in much the same light as if you had bought a new Mustang Elenore and had Jack Rousch show up and teach you how to make it perform. What more could you ask for.

Its a shame that all the build threads are gone. I didnt participate in the contest however I really enjoyed reading and checking out the threads. To me, this is a hobby that I truely enjoy. When I race, its for the enjoyment of seeing something I created with my hands up against others, I dont care if I win or dont. If there is another build contest, count me in!!!

They aren't gone - you need to change your preferences in order to see them. It hides stuff that is "old."

Only one guy deleted his posts while throwing a fit.

At the bottom of the forum there is a panel called "Display Options"

Change "from the" "Last Month" to "Last Year" in the drop down window and you will see all of the posts that were not deleted, that's all of them but one builder. :yeah:
