Hey Guys,

What's the plan for this weekend, Aug 26th? Are we meeting?
If we do...
I'm assumung that we will still be running oval races, but...
Does anyone have any interest/plans to Drag Race?
I've put a new Feiago 12XL in the "ARROW" for ovals and want to check out the effect on battery heat, and possible prop-up (if possible)
I hope to have a new motor in the "Oberto" and will need to work on propping her also.

Other wise, What's up? :bounce:

Steve,

Would you mind posting a couple of pics of your Oberto??? Being as all my boats are Oberto oriented... I'm always interested to see what others are doing...

Thanks,

The meeting is on for this Saturday at 10:00 with a full program of racing to include drag racing hydros and monos, 1/8th Scale FE, LSH, all classes of oval competition, and Q1-Mono. The Hooter's girls won't be arriving with the platters of hot wings until about noon, but come early anyway to get one of the air conditioned pit spaces.

Darin,

Here's some pics of the new build. :yeah:
It's a modified Dave Franks plan.
I've changed the crosssections of the front sponsons at frame #1 and pitched up the pan a little bit. The mid section of the pan is fiberglassed inside to increase rigidity and add strength.

I'm hoping that she will be as fast or faster than the original, I am confident she will be more durable than the kit. (Too much balsa)

Steven... Looks good! I have a friend in our club who is building a Franks Oberto hull... not sure what the livery is going to be, but he's doing basically the same thing... meaning, he's using the kit as templates so he can cut the hull from some quality wood pieces...

I'm partial to Oberto... When I get home... I'll see about posting some pics of the Finlay 1/16th Scale that I built and converted to a "Karlson" design and made up to be the '82 Oberto... I think you'll like it! Here are the pics I posted for the Build contest... http://www.rumrunnerracing.com/feforums/showthread.php?t=18096

I'll have to take a pic or two of it now that it is completely ready to go...

Were are you getting your graphics??

Darin,

We have a member of the club who has purchased a vinyl sheet cutter/plotter and he thinks that he has zero'ed in on the font needed for the big gothic "Oberto" lettering that goes on the sponsons. The "Oh Boy" part is easy. I really would like to find some sponsorship logos but I dont want to spend a fortune for them. The last time, I hand cut the "Oberto" lettering out of Monocote trim. I really don't want to do that again!
I'll let you know if it works out.

Steven,

I did a combination of vinyl lettering material and adhesive backed laser printer vinyl... I printed the outline section on the laser printer, then overlayed and hand-cut out the white part of the lettering, using the laser printed outline as a guide... I then covered the whole thing with some high strength water proof high gloss packaging tape... I used wax paper to temporarily hold everything between each step. Each letter had to be hand placed... to do this, I used a paper copy of the laser printing taped to a cutting board, then placed the wax paper over it and used this as a guide to place the letters back on to the wax paper. I then applied the layer of packaging tape and trimmed it as an assembly, leaving about 3/16-1/4" of material around the outside edge... Then, I just peeled off the wax paper and stuck it down!

A lot of work, but the results were worth it and it didn't cost much to do at all... http://www.rumrunnerracing.com/feforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=9847&d=1152832312

Darin,
Those graphics really look good!
A nice job!
Where did you get the "Pennzoil" graphic?

Here's a Pic of my old "Oberto" built from the kit with the balsa sponson side formers. The boat was basically destroyed when I ran over Jim Vaughns H&M Lifter (which was upside down, in the shadows, on the back stretch - couldn't possibly have been MY Fault!). Incidentally that lifter is one tough hull, as it suffered little if any damage from the collision.

Steven,

Someone here on this site (I think it was Jim Clark) sent me the Penzoil Graphic... Here... let me see if I can get it to post here:

Darin,

Here's my new Oh Boy! Oberto with the graphics produced by JD George.
They look great and were really well done! If your looking for specialized graphis and stuff like this I'd consider visiting http://www.fastelectricboats.com and send JD an email explaining what you need! He did a GREAT job for me and he uses good materials. Pics attached

That looks so much better than it did on Saturday. But it won't make it run any better than it did then....that would be pretty hard to improve upon!

Hello everyone what are these oberto boats like to drive how fast would it be with a mega 22/30/2 motor and hacker 77 speed con would it be competative for racing

After taping the racing this Saturday I came to a conclusion. You can have all the motor and wizbang gear in the world, but if you do not have a left turn fin on your mono you cannot win in an Offshore class unless your luck is outstanding and your boat is REAL slow.

If you cant keep your boat's wet side down for whatever reason then you cannot compete. I was amazed at the ease with which a reasonably stable looking craft could be flipped onto it's back.

I am going to wear out my welcome practicing in every lake or pond I can find when the boat is done!
