Hi all,

Looking for others interested in scale model boats/ships, preferrably R/C in the area of Maryland located between Baltimore and Washington DC. (Columbia, Laurel, Etc.)

TIA,

About 8 to 10 years ago I used to spend quite a bit of time at a jobsite in DC. I stayed at a motel in College Park (great indoor swimming) and went up Rt 1 to a hobby shop in Laurel all the time.

I couldn't give you the address other than it was on Rt 1, it was north of Columbia/Laurel highway (120?) just a little bit, and it was in a good sized mall on the west side of the highway. The mall had large outdoor-access stores, not all enclosed like they are around here. I found it by looking in the Yellow Pages under Hobby Retailers or such.

I know there were scale boaters there, because one of the guys that worked it had some _nice_ models including a 6-7' Unterseeboot.

I have to go down that way every now and then for other stuff, so I'll try to stop in and see if it's still there.

Thanks Andy,

Sadly the store you are thinking of is a part of a small Hobby Store chain now and is run by fairly clueless in regard to boater needs. (great place if you like cars.) I am less than 2 miles from that store. The good store that has half a clue about boating is only 5 mins away in Burtonsville. I buy most of my airplane stuff there.

There used to be a scale ship club in a nearby area but they seem to have dissapeared :( I am hoping there is enough interest to form club in this area. We have several nice lakes/ponds that could be potential locations for evens and floating events nearby.

If you find yourself in the Columbia, Laurel, College Park area look me up and I'll hook you up with lunch or dinner! That goes for any of the fine folks here on the FE board.

Cheers,

Wow, that's a real change. When I was there last I don't recall anything "car" at all. Of course, I wasn't looking for it either...

They used to be all modelers there, building their toys and getting paid for it. One guy in particular was real helpful. He was a student from Japan. I'm pretty sure the sub was his, and he was busy working on a "target" last time I visited.

They had half-built planes, rockets, and wood boats (they rule, Don ;) ) in several spots around the store.

When you walked in, you KNEW you were getting advice from somebody who knew his stuff, not like a Sears or Radio Shack employee.
