It has taken me about 3 years to get this 57" Aeromarine Apache hull outfitted with a brand new 35cc McCulloch gas 2cycle motor in it. All ready to hit the water and I find out there are no places here in Toronto to run it. I have to go way north to Collingwood or west to just north of Kitchener to run it. Of course I could just toss it into Lake Ontario, but I was looking for a smoother pond to sail in. SO, problem: how can I convert it to hydro where it can be run anywhere? I'm not racing it, just fun sailing so I can let it go in a pond or pool. I was thinking of mabe using a car power window motor to get the torque, or something similar, and a motorcycle battery or two. I want to try to keep the cost down as low as i can. Another idea is to have to high performance motors running through a transmission driving the single prop and using say, rechargeable battery packs from an electric drill (like the deWalt packs). Any ideas or help??
Thanks,
Tom

if you want to do it with tool parts etc, maybee the dewalt 36 volt packs would be the ticket, parralell two packs for 36 volts and 4600 mah, and then you could use the dewalt charger, they weigh 2.3 lbs each, so at 4.6 lbs for two, it would be considerably lighter than the motorcycle batteries, and 3 times the voltage. the motor would be another story. the dewalt one would not work well. but it would help justify buying one bad boy of a drill, although i find them too heavy myself for day to day use as a carpenter. and i'm not sure how this would work, but the packs already have built in voltage cutoff unit for the lithium ion.

You don't need to go all the way to Collingwood. I run electric boats with the guys who have gas and nitro boats in Markham. There is a pond off of 16th and HWY #48 in front of Mount Joy area. That is to save you some driving time.
The boat is a large one to convert to electric and you will spend some money - watch the swaps to see if you can pick up second hand

OOPS,
that's 2 packs of 5s2p = 10s2p.
So that makes 10s voltage with 10,000 mah.
