Hiya all I'm curious if any of you have seen rc surfer b4. I have a website for modifing these things check it out.
I started this site cause there was no info anywhere on the net.
This is my first rc watercraft I have had mine in 6-7 foot waves down in monterey ca. These things are a blast. My next project I want to build is 6-7 cell 20" boat of some sort but I can't decide which one. I'll be running saltwater open ocean. As for hardware I can make my own running gear out of aluminum or stainless as I have a pretty good workshop. I want to jump waves and just go reasonably fast for fun.
LMK what you think

Matt, I think you are going to have some problems running a 20" boat in that. It can be done if you want to do some work to it. Youll need a self righting hull, or modify one for this, a good seal to keep the water out, and you should run a subsurface drive to minimize cavitation as you get air. A shallow "v" would be a blst to run, but, a deep "v" would be more practical. Are you wanting to build from scratch (with wood), or do you want to build up a composite hull (best choice for taking a beating)?

Can't help you with any boat info for that kind of water...

Man that is a cool surfer. I checked your website...Wow those surfers really handle the big water. It looks like a lot of fun. Looks like you really need some good waves to make it fun. I live near Lake Ontario which is can get pretty stormy but it is usually miserable out when it gets like that. What kind of waves do you need to get the surfer going in?

Is the stock Kyosho surfer any good or are the mods highly recommended?

I am fairly knowledgeable in FE boats but never tried the surfer. Do you need ocean waves to make it worthwhile?

Thanks RvE

Hey Ralph, lets get an RC-surfer class going. I think I can talk John into getting one to. That would make 3, enough for a race.

Hey RVE
The surfers are really fun with any wave over a 1ft. I have Had mine in 6ft surf and it is very exciting. The stock kit is barely useable. You need a new motor around 19-22 turns. An esc with water cooling and maybe a better prop like y431.
I'm originally from Ontario so yes the waves on the lake will be perfect for a surfer. Not to mention lack of corrosion problems.Saltwater is hell on motors. I prefer motors with the bigger brushes like the D4 with a 19 turn. I also like the rc-hydro sc3 sport I turned ED at rcsurfrider on to these and he has been selling a lot these.
