Hi everyone,
I was wondering if the hydro&marine 24in pickle fork hydro with the hacker B50-8L motor will run well on 8 cells?
I just purchased this boat & motor to run in michigan this spring. If anyone can help me with what prop to start with or any hints it would be appreciated!
Also how does the 8L work on 12 cells?
Thanks JERRY

8L motor should be ok on 8 - I am not familiar with the hull.
Perhaps a little hot - just make sure shaft temp does not go over 85 degrees C at the bearing on the output end ie direct water cool
for 12 cells go for the 8XL (if you are cautious the 9XL)
8XL is a far more flexible motor - Dick and Larry set the big records with it.

Jerry.
My take is the 8L motor would be fine on 8 cells in a scale hydro. Actually its the exact motor I would start with. Have you set-up your boat yet? What hardware have you choosen?
Depending on set-up, I would advise you to start with an X-series prop such as the X638 - X640. Prop shaft angle and balance (CG) will make a huge difference with how your boat performs. Follow the manufacturer's instructions in that department.
Andrew hit the nail on the head by suugesting water cooling. This is good insurance.
Have fun.

Jerry,
The 8L is a killer 8 cell motor. It's what I use in my maus shovel, and another guy uses in his Bandit 24" shovel. The 2 boats run side by side. I've run the x440 on mine.
I've also run this motor on my 8 cell rigger and set the 5 lap oval record with it at 58 seconds.
You'll like this one!
See ya,
Dick
