I just picked up three of those packs and stripped them down to make two 8c packs for my kids boat. A friend of mine soldered the cells in the same end to end config w/o the cheapo tabs that they are connected with as they are purchased. They are doing a fantastic job in his boat currenty. If you can, I would suggest resoldering them end to end, as well.

Hi,
I've been thinking of doing exactly that, breaking apart the cells and soldering them end to end. Did you have any issues with breaking the apart the cells with the welded tabs?
Thanks

Hi waveryder,
the reason for breaking them apart and soldering them in the same configuration would be to replace the relatively high resistance welded tabs with lower resistance direct soldered connections.
My question was directed at Jallen355 who recommended this practice. I've read in a few places that the welded tabs can have fairly high resistance and its nice to eliminate a source of heat right next to the cells.

Plus they also have wire that is too small and rotten connectors and the cells are usually pretty close to the bottom of the barrell.

I have several of these packs, they run as good as any high dollar cells i have used, and i have not re-configured them or done anything but break them in some and put big deans plugs on them.. :)
