What are racers looking for in hotel accomodations? What price range? What features? How close to pond?
The pond is in Toronto, so nice hotels that are close are quite expensive. There are some low end ones nearby, but these may not be deemed adequate. Lots of hotels within say 30 minute drive - is this too far away?

I am not the club expert on rules but I will state some basic info for our club rules that likely will be in effect. Do not take this as "the rules" as they may change. It will give you some info to get started: This year we are running 5 laps in all oval categories except LSH which we run 6 laps. The only enduro we have been runnning are ECO type boats on an M course. LSH rules are the same as NAMBA and it looks like we will allow SS1. Our 12 cell "spec" mono class is 24" min hull (stepped is OK) with Speed 700 - no NEO - not sure about SS1 for this class. All other classess seem to follow NAMBA rules - I think.

We are not sticklers about NAMBA or IMPBA memberships since most of us folks here are not members. There may be a modest fee ($10) for insurance for out of town racers.

We are still finalizing all the details and should have more info out shortly.

Thanks for your interest in the race.

Ralph

Ken,

Here is some more information.

1)Can you let me know what the race fees for U.S residents will be?

Fees are in Cdn dollars: $20.00 1st boat, $7.00 each additional boat.

2)Also do we have to be NAMBA,IMPBA etc.?

No, an event insurance fee for non Metro Marine Modellers applies.

3)And what type of awards do winners get?(kids want to know)

Plaques to third.
Individual Highpoints award, based upon results of four (4) classes which the driver must identify at Saturdays registration.

4)Motel recomendations preferably with pool and continental breakfast.Prefer not to stay in city of Toronto.(No offense)

Mississauga is probably the best place to stay, many places along the QEW. (see map on my site)
I have been told that www.mississauga.com may have additional info.

I have stayed in Oakville at the Country Inn which is quite nice, no pool, but very nice. Kids under 18 stay free, rates and other info (it does offer continental breakfast) at www.countryinns.com. last year it cost me $109.00 plus tax for room with two queen size beds. Beside the motel is a Wendy's and Tim Hortons, across the QEW is a large big box outlet, thatre, roadhouse(s) resataurant complex
It is ~20 min. from race site. Location is secure and clean. remeber rates are in Cdn. dollars (~1.50 Cdn dollars for every US $) so rate is pretty good for business class accomodation. Neil and I will be staying there as well.

5.) P specc mono specs?

Ralph answered that one OK, SS1 will be allowed here.

6)LSH specs?SS1 allowed? Yes.

7)Do you guys run enduros for Crackerbox or other mono classes?Enduro?

Not anymore, interest has died out since Marek left. More interest in Spec mono, and LSH.

8)sprint classes are 4 laps right?

No, we run 5 laps now. 3 rounds.
9)preregistration?

I should really use spell checker...

Also, anything goes: any hull, up to 32 cells (sub C)5 laps...always entertaining.

Steve

I have heard that Fine Design is coming up, possibly D. Twaits Jr., Michigan representation is welcomed, we hope that maybe we can swing some Ohio residents our way as well.

To clarify, in the past NEOs were not allowed in our local 12 cell spec mono class. Just regular Speed 700s were run. The club will be voting on the eligibility of the SS1 in this local class at the next race on July 7.
More info to follow.

Here's a link to our Nationals Info. It contains a registrant and freq chart. Lots of our club members don't use the web or e-mail but the chart will be updated after our July 7th race. Thank you to all the event sponsor's and a sponsor page will be added soon.

I don't think anyone realized until now.....

Because of an overabundance of info flooding the internet about the 2002 Batavia Race (its date was changed according to an announcement on this board on March 29, from the traditional last weekend in July to the 3-4 of August to avoid a conflict with the NAMBA Nats). The August 3-4 weekend date for the Canadian FE Nats was set at the beginning of the year. There will be more potential conflict for participants between Toronto/Chicago than Chicago/Washington State.
Then again, it's almost the end of June, and there hasn't been any further word from Batavia......

Pete,

I'm pretty sure those two free ESC certificates will be going out today.

Naomi was given the "artisitic license" to make them up with very little input from me.

The course was put in today by Randall, Lars, Conrad and myself using the survey references done years ago. Randall knew where to look to find the survey markers! We used a reference line in the water to double check distances. We also used the new buoys made by Pete - pink with bright orange. They are very visible and look sharp. The course is very accurate and should by very, very close to offical dimensions.

See everyone on Saturday.

Octura's on board as a sponser, Alan Nayman is registered and the weather forcast couldn't be better. Good luck to all the Batavia guys. The final #'s from both races should see well over 40 racer's trying to beat the records set last week at the Nat's.

Lets Race !!!
