My daughter and I plant run:
N1 mono
N2 mono and offshore
P offshore
Q mono
Q offshore
and just maybe
P mono
Us being newby's this may be too much work for us. We'll see. I doubt that she will have the patience for 3 days of boats.
Say Ken, what happens with our Scat/Key spec class? Is that just for us Michiganders on the off weekends. Ours is finally starting to look like it could float!

It has moved one step closer now. It's on the table next to my workbench. It can't be too long now!
Finding an hour in a block to work on it has been the fun part.

Hi Ken,
I'm not sure what the other Minnesotans are going to be bringing but I'm sure it'll be close to what I plan on running:
N1 mono
N2 mono
O Sport Hydro
P Sport Hydro
P Mono
P Offshore
I can't believe you have open water in Michigan! It'll probably be July before the lakes open up around here.

O & P Hydro
O & P Sport Scale Hydro
Big Hydro (19 cell?) - If I can get more details and have the time.
Is M2 Hydro (4 Cell) going to be run this year?
Words of warning:
Do not allow your boat to drift in front of one of them Minnesotans' boats! :D

Ouch!!!
Man that's tough.
Kevin - I'm still looking at the cut in the hull of my 0 Sport Hydro and wondering what you made that fin on yours out of.
I'm just thankful that I never had my boat behind yours during the race!:D
Can't wait for the Michigan race. It'll be good to see you all.

PAUL sounds like your going to need a pit crew with all those classes.Whats this ANDYS prepping a boat for you?
STEVE V.All that power will have a place to go!
UNLIMITED OFFSHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHRIS H. cant wait to see that new boat perform.
UNLIMITED OFFSHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KEVIN already stiring the pot!Grease up that fin and try to stay out of any milling altercations.?You can see why i have 3 possible boats for P offshore. The plan is 2 will run interference as the 3rd stays in clean water to take the win!(just kidding)M-class won't be on the schedule but S Scale hydro will be.
DAN great to hear the Minnesota racers are planning on attending. How about Andy V.?
JOHN great news, always a fierce competitor.
02 Mi Cup Race Info should be on the MMEU website soon.I'll try to get the daily classes posted on the R/R calender today.

sorry to hear that M2 classes are not going to be ran, it's probably the only class I have a boat capable of competeing in. 0h well! I can at least come up and watch. I have my plans made and am just waiting for time to leave. looking forward to putting faces with the names from this site.
hey! I think everybody needs to wear name tags ;o) other wise I'll be the guy running around asking every one their name!! see you all then-----:D :D

You can always run an M2 boat in with the N1 boats, with a motor swap and probably stuffing a couple more batteries in there.
A really great running M2 boat could run (on its 4 cells) against the 6 cell boats in N2.
Get creative. Improvise. Break out of the mold. I know that if I had let concern over "being competitive" control whether I would even try racing, it would have been a mistake. I likely would have not tried at all. I have since found out the fastest boat or the most experienced driver don't necessarily win. And it isn't the win that is enjoyable, it is the race.

Ken,
On day 2 of the MiCup schedule (on the calendar):
Q Hydro and 1/12 Scale Hydro are listed on the same line
A typo that may cause some confusion.

Thanks Kevin its fixed. Also thanks for your words of wisdom with the 4 cell questions.
Got a ? on 12cell sport hydro and LSH how flat do you run your sponson angles also what have you found to be a good ride pad width?I just set mine up last night at about 2-3 degrees and 1 1/8" wide.

Well, on my 12 cell hydros I like around 1 to 1 3/8 inch ride pads. If your talking about dihedral I like 1/8" on the left and nothing on the right. If your talking front to back on the sponsons my fastest boats have a pretty flat angle of attack to them. One thing about that though is every once in awhile when the conditions are just right the boat will submarine on me, it sure is a sight to see when your boat disappears of the water in that fraction of a second.

PAUL thanks sounds like i'm in the Ballpark.I plan on running this thing in LSH(700BB) and 12 cell sport hydro(30 series 4t) so i want to compromise if theres any differences in optimum sponson profiles for those 2 classes.
ANDY & KEVIN whats your opinions? Haven't seen BARRY post on R/R Q&A yet.

Ken,
By the end of the season, I settled on 1-1/8" pads on the white 12-cell pickle fork boat (the sponson bottoms were 2" wide).
On my shovelnose (Bandit), which will also run on 12 cells (but is too short at 24.75" for LSH) I just put pads over the entire sponson bottom (1.75" wide). That worked fine just by making all the edges sharp.
I take it that you are scratch building? If so, just take extreme care to insure sharp edges on the sponson bottoms and don't put pads on them initially. When testing the boat out, you can temporarily stick on various pads to see if they really improve things(2-sided carpet tape works for me).
The angle as far as dihedral is about 2 degrees on the white boat and more like 3-4 degrees on the shovel. The white boat was faster but got more erratic as the water got rougher. That is where you are going to have to make a judgement call. Flatter should be faster but control is lost as the water gets choppy.

I use 7/8" wide pads on my UL. Wider than that gives too much bounce in dirty water. The boat is designed to fly (literally) and needs very little help from the water to be stable.
My N2 and P riggers have wider ride pads - they don't use the air much at all.
The minimum length for P Sport/LSH is 24" so your boat is legal. O Sport has a max of 26" long.

ANDY Thanks for the ride pad info however you didn't mention how flat of angle there at.I'm feeling better about the width i chose.
My new LSH/P sport hydro is based on a donar DPI tunnel lower hull. Its been modified to 26"l a ultra low profile offset canopied deck has been added. The deck is skinned with .30 styrene and light ply is used for stringers and transom bulkhead. Its very light, strong and doesn't flex.It should fit into a variety of classes.Cant wait to get some paint on it so I can take a few pics

I measure the angle a little differently than most. I rock the boat forward onto the ride pads, then measure the distance from the bottom of the hull to the table top.

We don't need paint to see it!

I hope to make a couple trips this year, Batavia is the obvious one just for the locality. MI is possible but nothing positive yet. I started a much anticipated Kitchen Remodel a few weeks ago to make some much uneeded and unwanted discoveries.
Previous home owners did not disclose some severe water damage under the patio door. Rotten sill and jamb there, rotten flooring, rotten floor joists and a rotten rim joist. Not too mention a rotted support wall under the rim joist, siding and deck outside! Looming legal battle, and the unexpected cost to repair the damage has turned the FE Volume down for me lately.
I will be in Batavia, we'll see about MI. I have family over there so there are other benifits to making the trek.

"Rotten sill and jamb there, rotten flooring, rotten floor joists and a rotten rim joist. "
Not to mention a rotten former owner. I feel for ya. We found at our last house that the "former owner" (being kind) had put a 40w light bulb in one of the rooms so that nobody could see the damaged plaster. The inspector didn't even catch it. We didn't notice it until much later when the roof was leaking much worse. My home owners picked up the tab. Wet plaster can be a ton of work! Messy too!
Good Luck
Terry
