View Full Version : Cat building help.
I was just wondering. I have been making cats ad messing up on like every single one. Baically, I want to use solid shaft and i need to know how far the bottom of the sponsons should be fron the bottom of the hull? 1/2"? 3/4"? IDK! Also, where should i put the motor mount? I will be making 2, one for 6-8 cells and one for 12 cells. Thanks for any help.

Chris,
A solid shaft might not be the right thing for a cat. Take a look at what is done for the Scat Cat, Key West, Systems, etc. If they have a solid shaft, they have a U-joint at the bottom too I believe.
Use the right tool for the job and you will be much happier.

Personally, I don't think that I would recommend trying to use a non or semi-adjustable straight shaft in a cat hull. Even more important than on a three-point hydro, prop height is all-critical on a cat. I think it takes the infinite adjustability of a strut and flexshaft to achieve this. This could be your problem in the past.
Thanks guys. I think it's time to make one of those struts from Jeff's plans. Thanks again.
