Am I guessing, are the sponsons a little shorter as well?
How deep is the tunnel at the sponson?
Have you widened the hull to compensate for the removed sump?

Questions, questions, I like to question.

Daz, No I didn't widen the hull, I figure let wetness should help. The sponson ride pad is increased to 1/4 " ( 3 pic on pg 3) and begins right from the tip. ( pic #2 on pg 3) Tunnel depth did not increase. Just the pad. Don't know the effects of the increased heigth, but should ride a little higher and give less wetness to the sponson.

I kinda let the dust settle on that hull. But after the Gale-Budweiser-go army.com, met with her demise a couple of weeks ago, the atlas is being put back on the bench for completion, I learned alot about building and choice of lumber. Trying to put things in perspective in the failure of the shovel nose as far as construction. I might start over with a new hull, using a little differant material to withstand the beating these hulls take. Working on a modified Dave Franks O'berto hull right now that might give these Whiplashes a run for some 1st places. With us holding the Nat's this year, I need some strong compition, so there are more builds this winter......... I don't like outta of the box type stuff, even though I do have a SV27 that kinda did well under NIMH power that will be lipo next season.

I'll be posting pics as things go along again.

Yep, that's the frame for the cowl decking. I built the cowling from the O'Berto plans

what part of the plans on the atlas show how to make that i cant seem to find it ?

It's kinda missing from the plans. I use some card stock measured at the opening and traced the cowling deck support and backed it down about 1/4" and do my cross members and cover with balsa and laminate 1/64th on it and then seal. The same profile is then used to build the cowl. If you look at the O'Berto plans it has the support already shown, but The Atlas didn't. No biggie here. I did the same for the Jones shovel, just another technique to learn since minor alterations happen as you build. I'll send pics along what I've done with the cowl and decking in a few. It really turned out as a great fit and finish. Now to ponder different wood and scrap out whats done except the decking and cowl assembly unless profile changes or go forward as is and hope for the best.

I am building one also and have the hull all done but the cowl
I used balsa and 1/64 covering

I am considering covering it all with a layer of fiberglass and epoxy to help hold all the joints together from race bumps and bangs

I like the nice square edges of the ride pads now and am afraid I would lose that if I cover it with the glass

Have you ever considered doing this ?
