What type of boat, Bill?

The term may be used to describe different surfaces on different types of boats. So, to avoid confusion please state the hull type.

hey i have some fuzzy but good enough pics of ride pads on my cat (12cell), whats your email? also, it is easy to mount them, for a keywest, i would use 1/32 ply or plastic of the same thickness, just cut them about 1/16 wider than the sponson bottoms and let them overhang the transom by about 1/16 to 1/8 inch. if the boat has steps (i dont remember) then just cut themto fit the steps, and let them overhang the back of the steps by 1/16 inch. if this doesnt help i can send pictures

My e-mail is( iwanacorvette@aol.com). So does that mean the pads over hang the hull on the sides? If so would that not catch water and flip in the corners?

Pics in the pictures section (under Ride Pads)here, Bill.

The reason for the pads, is for sharp, sharp edges. That way the water will break free and not adhere to the hull and cause drag.

no they dont overhang that far, on the sides they dont need to over hang much at all, but look at the pics in the picture section, even though they are on a hydro it should help, i will send pictures

If someone put together a boat with no ride pads and on an under powered test run it ran great should they still put the ride pads or how should they know if they need them or not ? (NO that I did it or anything)

It is more of a later resort kind of modification. If you get the boat operating to yuor satisfaction then there is no need.

Keep in mind that you can easily check if ride pads will improve performance without permanently modifying your boat.

Since the pads are made from relatively thin material like styrene or plywood, I have cut and shaped them then tacked them on the sponsons with two-sided carpet tape available at your local K-Mart (better get there before the doors slam shut for good!).

If they improve your boats performance, glue them on permanently. If not, just clean up a little adhesive residue after tearing them off. Simple.
