Thanx for trying but they won't work I need the orginial one's that slide down of the ESC FET's and get screwed in. If anyone has these please let me know. Even if it's a used XL-1 complete I would even take that for the right price to get the heatsinks.

Just an FYI,
The XL-1 is not a good ESC for boats. It eats almost as much power as the motor. I put a new XL-1 and a Chameleon in my Fighter 550 and it was SLOWER than the stock setup with a crap can motor and manual ESC.

Well I know it's not the greatest but I kinda want to keep my reverse so if I get rid of it I have to go to a car ESC and everyone tells me to keep away from them in boats. So I figure if I can keep the XL-1 water cooled it will still work well enough for my purposes. I do have a Novak Tempest Pro and Dually sitting in my tool box just collecting dust. Should I throw one of them in the boat??? E-mail me at mavrick0@rogers.com or if you have msn message me at mavrick0@hotmail.com or icq #5702014
Thanx.

The XL-1 is a car controller. Traxxas does not care enough to put a real ESC in thier products.

if you want reverse get a super rooster, they are 120 new and around 80 for a used one. i have one and it needs a fan or water coling because on 22t motors and 10 cells its too hot to touch. I'm gonna put water cooling on it soon.~alex

Thanx DualBarracuda. That's what I run in all my monster trucks and love it. Never had a problem with it in any way. But I know I will have to do some kind of water cooling to keep it running good but from what I kept getting told on here is that running car ESC wasn't good because they are very prone to water damage which is a no brainer and well I know I would have to make some kind of case to keep it water tight. But I think in the end that is what I'm going to end up doing.

mavrick0,
One of my friends did attach a different heatsink to his esc. His was attached through the holes in mosfets (By a nut and bolt)but this in not good since if you hit it hard enogh you could tear the mosfets right out of the circuit board. He now has it connected by force, his heat sink is presed against the mosfets (or whatever you need to cool) by three narrow strips of heatshrink circling the whole esc.
Eric
So if you still want to salvage it, you should try it.

I think what you should do if you really need reverse is to check out the ESC's from Astec they are great to deal with & have very good prices. I think you will be happier with the right ESC for just a few bucks. http://www.astecmodels.co.uk/faste.htm

I hear tell (from my rigger) that it works great, and even if you sink your boat it will still work, the ESCs that Andy makes are waterproof and nearly bullet proof... Just my $.02
Reverse, what's that? We go forward fast! If we are going backwards, it's because someone just passed our boat, which isn't a good thing...

and I here Andy is working on a ESC w/ rev. It will probably be worth the wait.
I'am no brain but if 1+1 =2 and 2+2=4 , then if I punch it in reverse with a lifting prop on my UL-1 it will probably become a sub! I'll stick to going foward.
Anyway reverse is good on a retreival boat. I'd wait to see what Andy comes up with.

Yeah Andy told me about a month or so ago that he was working on one. That's why I just want to keep the XL-1 in the boat right now. Anyways it's just a villian. I don't need to be breaking any speed records with it. It's just something different to have a little fun with when I'm not either running over everything with my monster trucks or kicking but doing the on road thing.

Hey if RC-Hydro is going to come out with one that has reverse it will be worth the wait no doubt about that one!!!!!!!!!!
