So far, there a no "rules" for the Eco class. People wanting to race in Eco class will just buy a boat designated "Eco class." Boats like Falcon, or Avenger.

As far as I know, Eco class means a boat with very little drag, submerged prop and rudder, 6-8 cells (depending on level) and spec motor (Eco standard.)

Hello all I know this isn't a recent posting, but with regards to Eco, I think maybe we should run along the lines of the European guys, I have read a few articles regarding these boats and it is like the fe Olympics with people representing their respective countries,,,, anyway I asked the flying dutchman from holland about it and thought I would post his answer if your interested,,,, hope you don't mind,
Hi Ed!

my mono2 has a Viper 700QC NEODYM RACE 9,6v 66mm, and it is a brush motor. similar as the graupner 700motors. (only better)
The mono3 has a Viper 740/9 BRUSHLESS MOTOR.

if you want to know more about eco's...

I don't know a lot of eco's! Sorry

About mini's I know a lot.
in the Netherlands we have a mini-hydro class.
400-480 type max. also BL
max cells. 7, max size 17*50mm (nicd or nimh)
triangle course. right turn.
race time is 4 minutes.

In Germany there is also a mini-hydro class.
little different....
400-480 type max. also BL. (most guys run Brushless)
max 7 cells N800AR.
oval course.
racetime is 4 minutes.

In England (Kent) there is also a "sort of" mini class.
very different than our rules!
motor 400-480 max. ferrit magnets only. no brushless.
Max 7 cells. doesn't matter what cind of cells.
Triangle course. right turn.
race time is 5! minutes.
doesn't matter what sort of micro you have. mini-eco/mono/hydro.

See Ya!

Eddie,
In the U.S., ECO class is aimed at the younger people and those who would like to get their feet wet in the sport, so it is made up of less expensive hull, hardware, motor, cells ad radio equipment.
The European (standard) doesn't follow this principle.

How old is your daughter?

My kids start racing when they are 9 or 10 with 12-cell sport hydros.

We have tried 6-cell monos but they have trouble controlling them - they don't respond "properly" - same reason it's easier to learn to fly an airplane with a pattern ship than a high-wing trainer (bring along an instructor either way!).

Andy sorry for the long delay, My daughter is 9 1/2, she does like to run the boats, but I think I'll try to stick to a mono, for her, something self righting would be even better,,,,, she's a speed demon, she doesn't like to use the throttle, just fast, and whack,,, I saw the video with your daughter in it, (winning a trophy to boot) anyway I try to get her involved in everything I do, she probably knows more about 69 442 convertibles then she does about barbie,,,,, thx again andy see you at the show
