Man, you guys are all doing impressive work! I just hope I can produce something that looks good and floats in the direction I tell it to!:bounce:

So, I have looked and looked and still can't seem to sort out when this contest is over, and where the conclusion will be held?? All I could figure out is that it ends some time after it starts and you can apply until just before it is over... Also, where is the judging performed? Maybe there is a link on the contest outline but I am still  !

Good job guys and thanks for the clarification

I agree that there are some great builds going on. As for the end date. There is a scheduled 180 day build time frame. The offical start date was December 1st, so the build would close on or about June 1st. The build off judging will happen on line with a preselected judging group. This will be done using the build threads discriptions and photos. There will then be seperate concourse judging and racing at several locations around the country that will be announced. The first will be held at the Michigan Cup. We will post more as these are finalized. Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

I hope the judging is not for another week or so; I had some delays with drying time of my polyethalane, but it is dry now and just needs painting. How about another weekend before judging?

I guess I'll ask the question here rather than starting a new thread.

I notice that the title in the top portion states 2009 Build Contest. Eddie is or was that a typo or is the 2009 build getting ready for launch ????? Really enjoyed the 2008 build and need to get started on a couple of boats for next season. My Gale / Bud / Go Army met her demise at the second to last race of the season.

I didn't follow any of this competition for a number of reasons; so I don't really know of the outcome, or what was built. I'll bet there were some nice builds though. There are some real craftsmen here.

My hydro build for 2009 will be the 1977 Atlas for Santee Sport Scale, based loosely on Garry Finlay's plans. The SLOBS will be having their first annual SSSH competition sometime around the end of the summer, so building efforts will soon go full-bore in that direction. I doubt that anyone at RRR will promote such an uncommon and non-sanctioned scale, so I'll be on my own and competing against the rest of the SLOBS for the glory of Top Builder Dog. There was even some idle chat from some people outside of our general geographical area regarding building a boat for SSSH.

I've been working on the plans for my SSSH entry, and it is going to be a REAL challenge to make it work and keep it scale. I'll post photos next summer when it is done.

Enjoy the next RRR build-off! Maybe this time, I'll take a look and see what is going on.

Hi Dr. Jet!

Would you please post pictures of your build. I like to see the way you put things together, especially at the scale in which you are working.

Thanks!

mhall,

I will take photos when I get started. I'll probably post them on a thread I started at OSE called "Jet's Latest Hair-Brained Idea". Right now I'm repairing the MHZ shovel after a collision with Team Arrrgggggggg and blueprinting the ride surfaces. It's going to get repainted as "Team John Deere". Then, I need to finish painting the BBY Micro Turbine Hydro. Once those projects are done, and there are no "repairs" to be made on other members of the fleet, I can start cutting wood for the SSSH boat. As I said above, the drawings are nearly done.

Hi Dr. Jet!

I have seen your posts on OSE, I will look for that particular one! I think these boats are great because watching you guys run them makes you think that a couple of guys could get together and have a lot of fun with them and at a reasonable price.

Plus, your inginuity and thoughtfulness is fun to read about.

Thanks for sharing all of this. It's a lot fun!

.....watching you guys run them makes you think that a couple of guys could get together and have a lot of fun with them and at a reasonable price.

I'm all over that! As much as I like the big stuff, I would rather spend my "big" money on that '65 Vibrolux Reverb, than on boat that will go up in smoke when you put 10S2P power to it with too much prop.

I like the idea of $200 racers. The SSSH boat I have planned will be much less than that.
