View Full Version : First Run Of The Ninja S2 8 Cell Rigger
Hey Guys,
Just got back from the first run, all I can say is this boat ROCKS!!!! Man it's fast with perfect manners. Look out boys, the Ninja S2 is ready for laser cutting. The Ninja S2 is the one on the left in the pic the S3 is on the right. ;-)
Setup;
3.5 9/3 motor
1.81 gear ratio
x637 prop
8 cells MT 2500's
ESC RC-Hydros 4-12 cell
This first run was an (I'm guessing) easy 50 plus MPH run. I know what it looks like at 40 and it would have walked all over the DD 40mph boat.

Good to hear, Paul. I just got off the phone with Ed H and he is waiting for your call to see how it went. I just told him you were still wearing a big smile and would let you share the rest.
That is fast!

They were originally designed this way for no other reason then to allow the use of an off the shelf battery pack.
It was after that, that advantages begun to show. Rigidity, looks, and placement.
Also I had built a nitro rigger for Rod Gearighty and Tommy lee. This thing had some wild ideas in it, thats for sure! Some of the sponson ideas come from there also.

Mike, Those are some pretty big names! what were Rod and Tommy running in their boats? Pull start 15's?
Paul, 50! Was this an oval configuration or straightline? If it's an Oval setup we may have a new king. You better find a way to get to LA this November and take a whack at the crown! Either way, It's still a trip worth making if you can swing it.
Good luck,
See ya,
Dick

The boat I built for Rod and Tommy was a prototype 21 nitro boat. One day when I was at Rods (I only live about 20 miles away) he had this strange looking sorta boat on top of his TV. It was nothing more then a bunch of carved boards. After the bull session I found out that they wanted someone to build the boat. (I understand Tommy sent him this design and then Rod would send it back, back and forth, back and forth until they had what they wanted.) I have a Killer 21 design called, What else "Ninja" and I have raced with Rod enough that he trusted me to do the work.
I never got to see the boat run although rod did have it at the 2000 Internats. It was to test some ideas that Tommy and Rod had "from what I understand, worked quite well" Also the thing has an ultra cool Hardware set up on it. Very custom!!

Well when you can run better than 58 second 5 lap heats then I'm a believer but until then it's all talk. We'll see just what kind of time you put down at the Michigan Cup if it's there then I'll be the first to blow the horn if not it will be your turn to speak.
Hello Dick,
Paul, 50! Was this an oval configuration or straightline?
LOL, it was pretty close to a straight line setup, motor brushes only lasted 1 run, the comm was in good shape though. Too hot for oval but I was guessing at the setup, was nice to see the potential it had.

What's your problem man? First you send me a flaming private message and now this. I've never got on you about anything and if you have a problem with me speak up. Wasn't it you who ran 55 with a scale boat, this is a rigger , I don't get you bud.

That's still very quick for 8 cells. It wasn't long ago that 50 was over the top and you're doing it with a couple year old technology. I mean that in a good way. I don't think I could do it.
Besides that, if Rod and Tommy are interested in this boat or have had anything to do with it that's credibility enough for me. Do they currently race the Nitro version or is it still in a development stage?
Hey, I just talked to larry on the phone and I think you guys are misreading each other. He was thinking the same thing I was that you were running your boat at 50 in oval configuration. That would be a very tall order. I think my 8 cell boat is pretty quick in oval config, but I'm not ready to claim 50. Shoot, it took me couple of days to reply cause that speed caught me off guard if it was an oval speed.
You've got to realize Paul that I and others do take you very serious and are watching what you say and do closely. I suppose with that comes some responsibility weather you like it or not. Since I've met you in person I know you're about as big of a screwball as I am, but others don't. When make a post like you did on Fullers price reduction post or that Octura stub shafts suck realize that you do affect what and how people are going to percieve you later. Maybe mama was right, "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all". Or, if you do want to speak your mind, just don't be surprised when someone comes back at you later. Seems like there's always a price to pay. Sometimes it's worth it though! Hey, my butt is about half as big as it used to be and it's not because I've lost any weight, it got chewed off on this board! But I usually invited it somehow or another.
Buddy, we're not talking Blade Runner here, you are leading the way in many areas and I for one am watching close.
I better back off now. I don't have much fanny left to give. Pretty soon they'll have to change my name to the refrigerator repair man.
See ya,
Dick

You know we have the video of the boat doing just over 40mph DD with a Chameleon right? It is posted for all to see. That video is of the first boat which had over 1 ounce of lead weight on the front of the sponsons to make it work right, running OLD Sanyo 1700's.
The boat I'm running now is a "bit" more refined than that one was with a gear drive and a 9/3. spinning a x637. Although I did say I was guessing at the speed I can guarantee it was right there. I can also say that if I set that boat up for SAW running it would be quite a bit faster. The setup was very similar to Ed's record boat, as a matter of fact he prepped the motor that was in it.
When make a post like you did on Fullers price reduction post or that Octura stub shafts suck realize that you do affect what and how people are going to percieve you later.
Fuller asked for it, he made a direct dig at Andrew, period. On the Octura thing your right, I probably should of said I prefer the Hughey stub. I've got and use Octura stubs so sucks was a bit harsh on my part.
Or, if you do want to speak your mind, just don't be surprised when someone comes back at you later.
You know Dick I select my words carefully (for the most part ;-) and this thread was the first time I ever laid it on the table like that. Has Larry shared the private post he set me with you? Maybe that will shed some light on why I'm upset. When I make a joke here I use smiley faces and lols so people understand it was just that, a joke.
Buddy, we're not talking Blade Runner here, you are leading the way in many areas and I for one am watching close.
I really don't look at it that way, people who personally know me on this board can tell you I'm pretty humble when it comes to my work. When I started this thread I was very excited that this thing runs as well as it did. There's a couple guys on this board that have seen it first hand and know how it preforms. One of them has been to my "play room" and knows what my arsenal looks like. I don't post everything I have here, for example the Hacker I've had for over a year and the Shultze 100 amp controller that works on 6 cells that I told you about. Year old technology to me.
I don't mind getting hammered on but Larry was out of line. When I'm wrong I take it on the chin like a man and apologize, but when it gets personal I will defend myself and my friends, I really don't care who I tick off in the process.
Paul.
Mama was right. "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all".
I'm going to go with the above statement and say no more before this goes places neither one of us want to go. At least that's what I think the case is.

Though I anxiously await the release of the Rum Runner rigger kit (and the LSH!), I like variety, too...put me on the short list when these Ninja laser kits come out, Paul!
