for those on a tight budget and with lots of spare parts, check out this site I fell across for building your own ESC

http://members.tripod.com/~TrEbOr69/speedcnt.html

I'm giving it a shot

That will be driving the FET at 60 Hz, a low frequency. It will work but do not expect high performance.

Also, the IRL2203 is not the best any more. You can get IRL3803's from www.digikey.com at a reasonable price.

This will still be a forward-only control. You adjust the servo pot to set your "on" point on your transmitter.

If you are anything like me, you probably have a pile of old servos laying around. The pot and motor usually go before the servo amp board. Mostly they use 5K linear taper pots, but for this application any 5K pot will do.

If you have questions on anything you should ask Rob ( the owner of the site) I'm thinking of making one (still cant decide if I should just buy one from andy though) Rob is very helpful with every aspect of the esc. There is another downside with this esc, there is no BEC.

Anybody in USA wants 2203's I have two of them. Free.

I'll take them. How would I obbtain them. Send a self adressed stamped envelope to you?

Thanks

Yah but, but... I found the idea. I want 'em! :-) but if it's first come, first serve, so be it.

Thanks for the info Andy. I've just started reading threads on this site, and you sure are the man when it comes to ESC's! No doubt I will invest in one of yours when I reach that point to compete. Will definitely attend the races in LA this Nov.

I resurrected a prebuilt 15 yr old v-bottom, and want to do some simple upgrades. In the mean time, I want to build a simple rig (~6 cell), and am reading over threads. Recommendations!?

The building of my own ESC is mostly for knowledge of the components, and the satisfaction of building sumfin new!

Andy,

After looking the schematic over does the addition of more FET's make for more current capacity.

For fets in parallel, yeah, you get increased current... ;)

I have two esc like that and race them whit som sucses.
At full trottel ther is no loss off efficiencie, it all depends on the fets u use. The best result i have is whit som fets i recuperated from a blown shultse i got from a frind.

Andy sind you are the expert til nouw i usde one resistor tou drive alle the fets or is it better tho use one per fet.

Sins this jear i have also a bec a 2940CT-5 and two capacitors do the tric.

I use this in 7cel 5 min heat racing 3300 gp battery in a self made rigger and it does hold on verry well.

For thos hoe like to build a esc themselfs.

One resister for each FET.
