I know just a little about R/Cs and a little less about boats. I plan on building two of the Hydromites and two cats I found at hydromicors.

Dougs plans online have been a great help as I can get my Octura parts on order while waiting anxiously for the plans. (going to put in my order real soon doug).

I plan on starting out with the motor sugguested, but the hobby shop my dad wroks for only orders thru Great Planes Distributor. So I need some help getting the right motor they carry (they can get r/c stuff but they do not specialize in it :( ). Also need help with the speed control and servo. I imagine for these small micro boats a mini servo would be fine or should I got for the standard size?

I am currently laid off from work so I need something to occupy my time at a very low low cost.

Thanks for any and ALL help :)

Hi Ryan
I'm not altogether sure that Great Planes is going to be able to supply you with the right motor (speed 480 Race 7.2v - Graupner #6330). Hobby Lobby carries them. Same thing goes for a suitable speed control. Not just any ESC meant for a car or airplane is best for a FE boat. Obviously, for the Hydromite, small size and weight is very important.
My recommendation for the motor and ESC (Kontronic Sun 3000) would be to order them from Andrew at Fastelectrics. His prices are as good or better than anywhere else AND he has free shipping! http://www.fastelectrics.com/default.htm

As far as radio components is concerned, I would strongly suggest that the receiver and rudder servo be mini to micro-sized (each less than an ounce in weight)

Oh, and by the way, your stage 2 motor ( to grow into) would also come from Andrew - Lightning Neo 480 ($73.00). It would work with the same Sun 300 ESC but be killer fast.

Sadly Andrew is out of the Sun 3000 controllers. I wanted to order one last week :(

Andrew, please let me know when they are back in stock and I will PayPal you right away!
