I'm a newbie looking for some advise from the pro's. I have owned boats in the past but all of them have been cheap kyosho products that I have hopped up to gain speed. This time I am looking for a new boat but I am going to scratch build it and I am looking at a electrovee hull with a graupner z-600 outboard drive unit all driven by one of the speed 700 motors. I have also been thinking about driving the electrovee hull with twin jet drives. I am wanting to drive the whole thing with 7 cells for running around the lake. So I am looking to find out what you all think about the jet drives vs the outboard unit. I am also wanting to know what everyone thinks about the 700 motors for speed vs runtime. My ultimate goal is to get a boat that is semi-scale looking and will run pretty fast to play around with on the lake.
Thanks for all the great reading material!!

thing20,
If you want it to get on plane "do not use the jet drive". My persomal experiance with jets as I am sure many others will agree. For the price of the outdrive, you could use surface drive hardware and be twice as fast. If you go with the 700 motor use at least twelve cells.

Well I have never setup a surface drive system so I didn't know a thing about how to trouble shoot problems. Thanks for the info on the jet drive. I was going on the jet star as an idea for the jet drives but if they don't work then it is a worthless idea. The reason I was looking at a outboard drive system is because of the new offshore class. Is it possible to setup the outboard drive as a surface drive system or does it have to be submerged?? Also does anyone know where I can get a Z-800 drive instead of the Z-600??
Thanks again

Thing20,
Yes you could use the outdrive in a surface drive setup. Check out Tony T's site www.kelownafastelectrics.com, and click on "monos/cats" then b-24. He is a member on this board and could advise you about the z-800 outdrive and its setup.
