Hello Guys,

A little while back I posted that I was using Minwax High Performance Wood Hardener to seal my boats. Well after doing a few of them this way I'm not sure I'd make the same recommendation again.

The first couple boats I did were painted pretty quickly and I never really noticed any problems. The boat I'm working on right now had been coated/sealed but not painted and this stuff really isn't suited to water. I'm not sure how to describe what happens to it but it's not pretty.

Now the last 2 I've done were finished with Z-Poxy Finishing Resin which seems to work really nice. I'm much happier with it's finish and durability, plus it drys very quickly. So my suggestion is to stay away from the wood hardener and stick with epoxy finishes.

Paul.

i must say krylon and 2 part epoxy is all what i use. For smoothing and fairing i use Auto products. I never had a problem with them. If you can put it on your car it must be good.

And i must say you get a smooth harder finish which you can polish and wax. Far better looking and lasts alot longer than all other paints being exposed to water

I use a spray Polyurethane clear varnish for all my wood boats. High gloss, quick drying, hard, yet flexible enough not to crack under stress. Works well for me.
