While searching for drive components for my 11" Cat Im building I come across the perfect little item, thought I would share my find.

The cat Im builing will utilize a small slotcar motor, which has a .079" diameter shaft. Well at the hobby store hanging on the wall was a prop mounted on a straight shaft, which appeared to be the same size. I spent the $4 for the prop joined to the shaft. Got home and it was the same size. The prop was dull so I sharpened it up.

I think this prop system will work farily good. Just for the fun I hooked the motor up to it and used a 5V power supply to see what it did in the sink. Lots of water movement which was very encouraging.

The info:
Hobby Zone HBZ3327 Propeller w/shaft : ZZR

This prop is meant for a small elkectric boat. Cant remember the name for it but looks perfect for my application.

Will let you all know how it works after I complete the project.

Thanks for the encouragement.

The motor I am using is a smal mabuchi (of course) that was marketed to the slot car market as a cheap sealed stock motor. Nothing fancy, but will doo around 30,000 RPM at 12 volts. I am driving it with a total of 8 parallel AAA rechargeables, for a good 9.6V, but in actualaity it over 10V.

I did a bath tub test, with only 4 cells it was rather week. I had some problems getting the torque to the prop.

All in all should be ok.

Will get an update once completed.
