Fellas .....
Ken Haines posted in another thread a few comments re the 2010 Nats. Just wanted to get Ken's announcement into the main stream. As follows;
Hey guys,
I guess we need to share the nats situation with everyone.
This is unofficial and tentative, but have had lengthy conversations with
Al Waters, Terry Davis, Dave Newland, Mike Martin, and many others at the nats. Due to my crazy work schedule next year (2010) we are deferring the nats to Dave Newland's SCal FE club and he is deciding where to have it. This will most likely be in LA. at Legg Lake.
The Wave Blasters of Florida, our club, will host the nats in 2011. Again still tentative that would be a spring race in either April or May to avoid the hot Florida summer and the fall hurricane season. Then in 2012 again still tentative, the discussion with Al was to have a combined nats in the Northeast, I believe at Dougie,Eddie, and Mike Pag's club.
Just an update, more info on nats is forthcoming.
Thanks, Ken

I suppose this is, what it is. I am disappointed the Nats wont be in Florida, But totally understand having a crazy work schedule. I have been working on a new fleet (ground up) for 2010 .... maybe I will slow down now and concentrate on a couple of SAW hulls.
Hey ...whats the deal with a combined Nats. Yikes!!!!!!! Will the FE contingent get lost in the smoke? That concerns me.

Don-I'd recommend dropping a line to Rychalsky and/or Waters about it. I've had some conversations about it, but the idea is barely in it's infancy stages...a ton of work would need to be done in order to pull it off. Gas/Nitro Nat's go 9 days, we go 4. That's just for starters.
The idea of combined racing has its merits, but I still wonder if a "Nat's" format is the best venue to showcase this type of gathering at this time. Maybe as time goes by and planning really starts to take shape, I'll think differently.
I can see a solid regional event (3-4 days) doing it and giving each power class 3-4 classes to run each day. Az has done it already...Ohio has done it, too. And we kind-of did it at the '09 Gas Nat's this year. Well, we only ran 1 class each day, but it could have easily been more. 2010 IMPBA Internats will have FE representation, again in Ohio.
Whatever happens in 2012, I'll be in full support of whatever the NAMBA wants to get done. I feel we've got some great momentum in FE right now and it feels good to see gas/nitro racers take notice at what FE is doing (both performance on the water and overall perspective/respect for the hobby).

Rod, don't be so harsh, CA has it's low points, no state is perfect, but it's a nice state, that's why everybody wants to live here... besides, we could host racing here year around, weather is great, winters are not too cold at all.
Aside of that, you will not have to put up with all the people in CA, only the boaters :), there are Hotels close to Legg Lake and traffic is inexistent to/from the lake.
Let's not close doors right from the beginning. :yeah:

If you guys do the Nationals next year, I may even come. I haven't set foot in Colorado since the mid 80's. That would be very cool. I would get a chance to see the mountains again. It's been over ten years since I left the Wasatch Front in Northern Utah.

well, if you guys really scrap CA, I have a good friend in CO that I have not seen in a while...
so, let me ask this, are there Hotels, camping grounds or any other type features near the particular pond we are talking about in Greeley? how about Hobby shops? Anything you can tell us Rod (or anyone else)? Is it Sanborn Park?
Big Bopper
10-17-2009, 01:58 AM
Yes it is Sandborn park. As far as hobby shops they have in Greeley one is mostly planes and the outher one closed up about a month ago. But there is one Ft Collins (1/2 hr away) or one in Longmont (about 1/2 hr away ) also Denver is only 45 min to 1hr away .There is hotels only 5 to 10 min away from the lake .A camp ground is about 10 to 15 min away from the lake .Grocery store and reataurants within walking from the lake . Estes Park CO / Rocky Moutan National Park are only about 40mi away. Hope this helps some .

As much as I know Colorado is a nice place I am REALLY hoping that the NATS will be at Legg Lake. 46 miles versus 855 miles. Strictly selfish reasons. That and Legg is one of the nicest boat racing venues you will ever see.
Big shade trees, an awesome drivers stand, freeway close, lots of hotels and restaurants, AND you can bring you dog with you into the park!!!

This is what I was referring to:
Public Nuisance-Presence of Animals in Parks
All parks in the City of Greeley with the exception of Rover run and Island Grove Park have been posted "No animals Allowed". This does not apply to seeing eye dogs, dogs trained as ears for the deaf, handicapped assistance dogs, government owned animals participating in shows or exhibits that are conducted in compliance with officially sanctioned activities.(Code 10.28.080) Rover run is a dog park and are allowed without a leash, Island Grove Park allowes dogs on leash.

I am unclear as to the exact process, but I am certain that a post here is not part of it. I think your club needs to contact Al Waters, the current NAMBA President, and inform him of your desire. He can tell you how to proceed from there.
My question is: what can you offer that the SMB/Legg cannot and why should the NAMBA Leadership consider a change at this point since the location has more or less been selected. Why not shoot for 2011 versus trying to pull the rug out from underneath the SMB??

You right, we are following the chain of command, we have informed our district director of our intentions. He will be in contact with Mr. Waters I'm sure. This is more a testing the water phase to see if any strong objections. Just letting the folks who follow FE Know up front of our request and desires.

If SMB is ready to proceed we are more then willing to bow out at this time and move to a later time. We have nothing vested. But if folks want a more central location and tested, proven venue, we are offering, and willing to put it together. Not trying to pull the "RUG"

Bill, that's exactly the right way to handle it.
I don't think SMB actually requested to host. Florida was going to do it but they decided they weren't ready. So we started harrassing the Arizona guys. It was kind of a "Hey, do you guys wanna host?" kind of thing. That's my recollection at least. I could be off a little.
We had a similar situation in 2005. It was Jersey's turn. They were slated for it. MMEU got permission from NAMBA and Jersey passed on their turn. If I remember there was a lot of water testing just like Rod is doing to see if anyone would actually come. Worked out in the end. Good or bad it was the biggest nats ever. I think it turned out to be the biggest FE only race in NAMBA history.

This is accurate. Az and SoCal FE were asked to to step up because NAMBA didn't want an FE nat's void in 2010. When Rod posted last week posing the Colorado host question, I sent him a note offering my support, but to also get it run into a corner ASAP so Az/SoCal knew what direction to go. Rod got to work, and got it done. There are a few more details to work out with the formal bid, but nothing that will hinder his clubs plans IMO. I think a Colorado venue will be good, too, just as Legg Lake would have been...and will be at some point in the future.

Hey Rod,
It's great that there is now multiple interest in hosting the Nat's.
Terry pretty accurately summed things up.
I think you should contact Al Waters, but first you really need to talk to Dave Newland to see where they are at with things. Having communicated with Al about the 2010 and now 2011 Nat's I'm pretty sure the first question will be
"have you spoken with Dave about this yet"
Just my 2 cents but keeping everyone talking and on good terms is what we all need to continue doing in FE. The past Nats was certainly a great example of everyone coming together despite not all agreeing on absolutely everything.
Everyone seemed to come and race on good terms and left on even better terms and made many new friends.
I for one would be good with either club hosting 2010. I will be there which ever way it goes.
Good Luck,
Ken :yeah:

It's very cool having it in your back yard but not for the reasons I thought it would be. It's awesome to have people come in and show them a good time. To the best of your ability of course. The bad thing is that the host clubs racing generally sucks. Your so scatter brained you screw up things you don't even think about normally. Spec rigger going backwards. Fred killing those buoy still makes me laugh. He never hits buoys. That's my job.
Sending people home whipp'd and grinning. That's where the fun is.

Ok I am probably just missing something florida did not withdraw, they asked to host in 2011 instead of 2010, ( as Terry said this has been done before ) but I thought the Florida folks wanted it in 2011. then jersey 2012.
I thought some guys in Florida still wanted it in 2010? gets very confusing LOL...
anyway We will support you guys however we can, Not sure I can make it to either venue, it is 31-32 driving hours from jersey to sanborn creek? even farther to legg lake, but no matter we are here for you....
