Guys,
The first club meeting will be 1-17-10. The location may vary based on how many will be coming. We're shooting for Norms. If numbers are up we'll do my house. If numbers are way up we'll find a hall or a restaurant with a room.
Send me an email if your coming so we can get a head count. h2o-racing@comcast.net When it gets closer and we know exactly where I'll post some addresses.
We'll likely think of some other things before the meeting but for sure at the first meeting we will be:
electing officers
setting the schedule
reviewiewing the financial report
shoring up our classes to make sure we all know what we're doing
oh, awards for the 09 season
proly stuffing our faces
my personal favorite, showing off our latest projects
So set aside the 17th. Bring out your new toys. Show us what your up to. I'm anxious to see some 10th scale progress. I've built 2 and will have a 3rd boat built by the 17th. Bring anything you have questions about too. We don't always have the answers but there are some sharp guys in the gang. Do NOT be shy.

Are these tables intended to promote the club or sell our own personal stuff? I have more of the promotional flyers that were handed out at the hobby shops... LMK
Later,
Ball
Hey Mike, see if you can get your core members to discuss any dates with us in Cleveland prior to your meeting.

Mike its been a little of both. I alway thought it would be cool to have a club racing vid or scrolling race pics to show of at these events. Maybe we could encourage someone to take this on for next year.
Al i think theres a proposed date list floating around the MMEU core council, maybe one of the guys could share it with you.

Good idea Ken,
I think that one of the Saginaw guy's wife... Rob's maybe? was taking loads of pictures at this year club events. We also have pictures from this years Nats, maybe something can be done for this year. What about a club banner, don't we have one of those too?!
Later,

Ken,
As you know Howard and wanted to attend some of your races last year but it just didn't work out for either of us. I am hoping to do so in '10 but also wanted to extend the invite to you guys to do a bit of racing here. We have access to a very nice pond on the west side of Cleveland. Approximately 2 hours from Toledo. It would be easy to have a Saturday run here or there.
I would hope your other club members would want to do so. Mike Ball has been here a couple of times within the last year and he knows the area and the easy drive time.
Please forward me a list of dates you guys are looking at so we could organize a bit of racing between the two areas. Maybe throw in a circuit cup or something.

Alan,
The issue may be getting enough people to travel. I can't speek for others, but I would be willing to travel if my schedule allows it. I think the problem would be getting enough people showing up in the Cleveland area for a race. I can promise you that the MMEU wouldn't bring enough people on our own for a race.
Would you be trying to attract other racers from different areas? Just trying to get the communication juices flowing.
Mike, I would like to have at least one major event and maybe one to two visits on either side of the border for the year. We have a few local fe'ers and I would like to get them involved too. If we could get 3-6 travellers it could easily work. And of course we are open to anyone willing to attend any function. If they don't have a boat setup to race we can always help out. Isn't that what it's all about? Plus I just had this really silly notion that Ken and maybe one or two others might like an 1/8th scale circuit so that we can run the big 'uns more than 1-2 times a year. Packing 2-3 race boats shouldn't be that big of a deal. The drive time for many could make it an easy 1 day event...drive in run 3-4 heats and call it a day. I thought that would be economical and practical. Wish Lake Erie didn't make the drive to London or Toronto so far since there are racers in such close proximity.
Another factor to remember would be that if you do spend the time to travel you don't have to do all the setup and teardown including running the show!!!!

Hey call it what you will Norm...Howard and I have been trying to get some things started here and was hoping that the MI club would like to do something different once a year instead of the usual. We want to drive up and run with you guys. Last year just bombed on us. If we set a real date or two then there's a better chance of that happening. I've discussed this with Fred and Mike. Maybe a little with Terry. It sounded like it was a good thing when we spoke. Maybe some minds have changed. Still waiting for any kind of response.

No where near enough to not do it at Norms. Unless I get an influx in the next week or so I would think we're safe at Norms.

Secret? I'm bringing 3 new builds. Come on Norm!
I'm not bringing the new whip though. It's still in 24 million pieces anyway.......cuz I haven't started it. All the changes are in my head though. I have got to get going on that pretty soon. Almost done with the new LSO. Hope these new rides work. I'm in uncharted territory. Everything is wood.
chuckc

Uncharted about wood ? Seems to me that WHIPPER at 9+ worked well for ya.... Getting nervous about a new one with changes though......

I didn't say it was boat related.......but I couldn't resist throwing that out here to see what kind of reaction I would get! LOL I'm building something for the wifes garden this Spring and don't want her to get "wind" of it. Have to
"pacify" the wife since I spend to much time working on the boats:eek:.
I'll have a Sport 40(wood) to show. Ton's of mistakes covered up with glue,
putty and scrap wood.......but no bailing wire:yeah:.
Looking forward to seeing "ya all".

Changing the sponsons and the rear end. The new one should come in around 4.5 pounds rtr. Muhahahaha Probably be like trying to race a kite though. I may end up with a flimsy boat that carries 4 pounds of lead to stay in the water.
K.R.Joye
01-13-2010, 08:51 AM
Terry curious to see your new LSH, i'll bring mine for comparison just over 5lbs RTR.
My New SP40 is coming along lots of cool new build tech going into it. Replaceable molded CF sponsons, Whip-like design G10 tub. Frames are on the jig squared up waiting to be skinned. Its not going anyware anytime soon. LOL
Wonder what Mr Ball has been up too?
T.S.Davis
01-13-2010, 09:13 AM
I haven't started on the LSH yet. I just know where all the weight was stored in the old one. I know where all the wicked stress points are too. I looked at the old one again yesterday. What a mess. The deck is falling off. The bottom is falling off. There's a hole in the sponson. It could be fixed but I think the old girl needs to retire. I might rebuild it for P sport though. We'll see. It's been really good to me. I think it's got like .750 life time average.

Not as much as I should be!!!
I need to find a better strategy of balancing my Wife, Work, and Household responsibilities...
Ken, I noticed the guy on RCGroups selling the Xterra (spelling?) outrunner. I wonder how the 600kv (Xterra) compares to the 800kv (scorpion)…
I was also wondering about using the new Castle Phoenix ICE 160HV controller. That should be more than enough room amps wise, but I wonder if air cooling would be OK… Thoughts?
See you guys on Sunday.
K.R.Joye
01-13-2010, 09:43 AM
Sounds like you got a lecture from the boss(at home) LOL, we've all been there. Good luck finding the answer.....
I'd have to agree with the guy the X-Era is the better motor but 600kv(D/D) is to low for a Scale boat on 10S. I'm running the identical motor on my overdrive setup, incredible power!
According to X-Era their 830 kv 4025 will have no problem keeping up with a Scorpion 4035/800, i believe them but have no proof yet.......
Haven't had any luck with Castles, i've got a Turning Monster 200amp ordered if i get it before the meeting i'll bring it to show along with my new Big Screamer motor.
Looking forward to seeing everyone, hoping the west siders can make it.

Proly pizza unless Norm knows of something local that wouldn't be too much hassle.
Finished the new LSO last night. Have to rethink the cells for it though. Next boat is the whip. The P mono, N2 and spec rigger will have to wait until I get that done.

I've got a gas full tank of gas for grill. Can do wennies, brats,Italian sausage or
any sausage you bring. Better get with the "money man"(Treasurer) for cash
to buy if thats what you want to do. Also have a Mr. Chicken(Expensive) nearby. Beverage's needed also. I can provide coffee on demand.
Don't forget cups, paperplates and napkins.

Much less hassle on our kind host that way.

get here a little early to "shoot the s--t". I'm all setup so if you want to come
early, thats fine. There's fog in the forcast so you might want to allow a little
extra time.

Norm,
As always, I enjoy coming to your house for our yearly meetings. You are such a gracious host. And I enjoy seeing what's new in "Uncle Norm's" hobby shop. Did you check to make sure that all of your stuff is still there? You never know. Something may have walked off buy itself.
