Using 2 05's in a 12 cell rigger can be done, it would keep up with the exotics. But it depends of the design of the rigger it has to be wide enough to house the gear box. Plets cost a bit more than the 05 cans. and remeber that you have 2 ad up. with 2 05's you need a really good esc ( high amperage ), plus the cost of the gear box, and the the 2 d4's. If you ask me it adds up to cost the same. It comes to personal preference, with the 2 05 you have more options with gear ratio and prop selection. uying a plet isnt really a bad choice. but i rather go all the way and get a hacker.

The Plett will be cheaper in the long run and a Brushless cheaper, yet.
Here is my observation/experiance. Regardless of the rigger design twin 05's WIll NOT be competitive with a modern BL's and may not run consistent with a Plett either.
Wil - The myth that twin 05's offer a lot more set-up options is only that. A Myth. Indeed options are available however you will most likely find one set-up (out of dozens possible) best suited for your boat. Experimenting will gears, props and burnt 05's is very expensive. Another reference to experiance and observation.
In the long run - as long as you are having fun -that is all that counts. And, if you have experiance with 05's like to tinker and not planning any serious racing you could have a lot of fun. Indeed you will learn a lot.
I have a box full of gears and gearbox hardware. I am keeping mine - just in case I change my mind.

But how darn fast you want to go? A plett 290/30/4 will make a rocket out of that thing and last many seasons. They are also getting cheaper as the brushless take over more and more.
Also depends how far in you already are with brush equip. If you are like me, I can't afford to change to brushless for a while because what I have wrapped up in brushed equip. (of course, after burning my 207D last weekend, I am starting to wonder :)
If you are just starting and plan to stay in it then brushless has the edge. Andrew at Fast electrics.com has some great deals on brushless combos..as well as many others.

If the original question was :
I've got a 2kg PLANE and hesitate between 2x05 geared and a single Neodym ....
The answer would be definitely, YES : Keep it simple : Use the long last lasting, superior efficiency, no maintenance Neodym !
Keep in mind, Neodym magnets guaranty a large Efficiency range on Volts and Amp ... Ferrite magnets not ...
So you can run it differently and at the same efficiency your Neo with different Nb of cells and Props ...
Keep also in mind, than at a given Output power , Neo will bring more torque than Ferrite ... (so at a same or less consumption than ferrite)
To conclude, In a boat, the weighty, complex to install twinmotor gearbox seems less critical but causes also that new fact :
That's easier to cool correctly a single pre-cooled neodym (Marine Pletts are) than 2 05mods ...
You can afford strong powerful neodym designs from Plett, Hacker, Mega, etc. and for far less monay on ebay.de for example (German people sell it really cheap considering how many they are to do the same !)
If you're ready for the Real Power/Weight ratio ... Have a glance on the Worldwide available Brushless offer on www.rcsaga.com links ... Now 20+ companies than more the half German ...

Hi one thing I find about the larger motors over ferrite 05's is that with an appropriate setup they run more consistently and more often at the highest level of performance.
Just one tip ask before you put a prop on it and cells - get those things right and you will have a no brainer, good time rocket in almost no time
