Matt,

Hobby lobby has some outboards, I am not sure of the 540 motor though. I think hobby lobby's outboards go from a GTX 500 (480 size), GTX 600 (600 size) and the GTX 800 (which has an 820BB). Other outboards that are popular are the dolphin unit (modified witha gear drive) and also a modified K&B unit also gear driven.

I have a Graupner Outboard, the GTX 600. would this be to big? I'd consider selling it.. with or with out the motor in it. Hardly used. Here is a picture of it. I also have the "Tilt" system for it..

Matt, the tilt system is like a servo adjustment for the angle of the motor this can be adjusted while you running (if you have an extra channel,) a really cool feature
I have seen this motor run with the 600 in it on a 30 inch garvey with mickey mouse batteries and a ton of scale stuff all over the boat (it was heavy) it ran very very well, good luck, cheers eddie

Here are some prices..
Outboard only (with motor) $45 US (70 canadian)
Outboard only (no motor) $32 US (50 canadian)
Outboard with trim (with motor) $77 US (120 Canadian)
Outboard with trim (no motor) $64 US (100 Canadian)

The trim unit does come with the control arms.

*note* the trim unit does not come with servos. Servos can be includes for $26 US (40 Canadian) extra.

Here is the picture of the two units.
Oh in case you are wondering.. the red thing on the back of the motor I put there to plug a hole that the oil seem to come out of.. I think it's where you put oil in.

I was thinking of using it on something around 40 inches, would it be sufficient?

40 inches would probably be to big of a boat for this unit. The motor is around 1/10 th scale
