Hello,
I would like your opinion on this. I currently have an OPC. It is an old Dumas nitro OPC that has been converted to electric. It is not setup up perfectly, yet, and even if it gets setup, I don't think it will be as fast as the modern designs that I saw in Arizona.
We currently do not race the OPC boats. Therefore, I am considering selling mine and buying a 1/10 scale boat, which we do race.
Therefore, I would like to know if
a) Will we race the opc boats or will my boat just take up space on my shelf?
b) does everybody that has a 1/10 scale plan on continuing to run them or is this class just a "fad"?
I would like to have a boat that we will race. The boats really don't do me much good sitting on the shelf collecting dust and I can't afford to just go out and buy another boat.
thanks for your opinions on this matter,
tim

tim---here's my opinion--buy a 1/10 kit-not a rtr boat-build it,take your time, when your done put it in the water and pull the throttle and listen to your heart beat-it's yours and boy does it feel good! dust is never a problem if you do your way.:thumup:

Oh Timmyjoejimbob...here's my opinion for what it's worth.
As I think I have made it clear I do not enjoy the scale aspect but I built one cause we run them. I don't understand the mentality of creating rules that intentionally make a boat run like crap. It just isn't my cup of tea. There is no doubt that others love the idea of it as it has kind of taken off. What ever puts a smile on your face.
We as a club need to support the classes we have up and running and that's the only reason you will see me running that goofy wrong turning class....well running for a few laps before the turn fin unhooks and I stuff the right sponson and flip....

I agree with what you said...mostly.
In my opinion, your boat is really close to running good. I drove it breifly and I thought it ran good. Now I may have a differant opinion if I raced it. The only problem with your boat is that it has a tendancy to want to attempt to crash into the big a$$ retrieval boat.....sorry about that. :)
I also agree with you in that I am not really "into" the scale aspect of the boats. I want a boat that runs against more people. As long as the boat is faster than the rest of you guys, I don't care what it looks like.
I am trying to get opinions on if people will start running OPC or if anybody is considering getting rid of their scale boat. It would annoy me if I buy a scale boat and then people stop running them.
Therefore, I would interpret what you are saying is that you will keep your 1/10 scale boat as long as we run them, even though it is not your favorite boat.
on another note, I was looking at mark's web site. He had some tips in his support section on boats that hop (both in the straight and in the corners). You may want to take a look at this and see if it will help you with your boat.

:thumup:If you don't care about the scale aspect of the class why even consider running it. This is a class that is built on the scale aspect not on all out speed. I think its safe to say scale boats will continue but the number of entries will rise and fall. One thing I will say if your hearts not in it why do it.

It's the only other 3 point hydro class we run. Plus it should be a stable run every week type class like LSH and LSO.....again support the classes we have.

Well as you put it in your post, You could care less about the "Scale part, Turning left and a class that is designed to run crappy".
Why do it. IMO it would be more supportive of The club, class and you to persue other classes that fit for you. The club is always open to ideas and classes, it only take 3 boats to make a class. There are other options

I believe more classes are a club killer.

I am just looking to run something that others are running. If you were all racing the radio control duck or a tugboat, I would be thinking about running that.
yes, I am not a scale guy. This does not mean that I am anti-scale. It just means that I am not into the looks and artistic details very much. I also have very little artistic ability.
I just figure that we aren't running OPC. Since my boat is sitting useless on the shelf, I am thinking of selling it. This would give me money to buy a 1/10 hydro, which you guys are racing and so, I would race.
Ok, while writing this, I think I have made my decision. I will try to sell my opc (since nobody has said that they wanted to run OPC) and all the stuff associated with it. If it sells, then I will buy a 1/10 scale, since it sounds like 1/10 boats will be with us for a long time. I saw there are a lot of 1/10 hydros on the NAMBA master list, so I should be able to find one that does not require an intense amount of artistic ability to paint, decal, etc.
